Jerome Kersey was born on the 26th June 1972, in Clarksville, Virginia, USA, and died on the 18th February 2015 in Tualatin, Oregon, USA. He was a professional basketball player, who is probably best known for playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for a number of teams, including the Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers, and San Antonio Spurs. He is also remembered for being a coach, after his retirement from playing, which was active from 1984 to 2001.

Jerome Kersey started playing basketball while he was in Bluestone High School in Skipwith, Virginia. After matriculation, he enrolled at the Division II School Longwood College. There he excelled in basketball, as he finished his college career with setting records in points, blocks and steals. In 1984 his professional career began, when he was selected as the 46th pick overall in the NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers. Due to the low draft position, not much was expected of Jerome in the NBA, however, he regularly came off the bench, and became an important part of the team. He stayed with the Trailblazers until 1995. and left a mark in the Trailblazers’ history, reaching two NBA finals, alongside such players as Clyde Drexler, Buck Williams, Terry Porter, and Kevin Duckworth. He also participated in the All-Star Dunk contest, in which he finished second behind the legendary Michael Jordan.

In 1995 he joined the Golden State Warriors, but played only one season, and then moved to the Los Angeles Lakers on a one year contract. After the 1996-1997 season ended, Jerome joined the Seattle Supersonics, but only briefly, as he found new engagement with the San Antonio Spurs in 1999, and that year, Jerome won his only NBA Championship. Before he retired, Jerome played one season for the Milwaukee Bucks, adding to his overall net worth a little more.

After retirement, Jerome tried himself as a coach, serving with several teams in various capacities, however, in 2003, he was hired to run the player program for the Portland Trailblazers, and the following year, he served as an assistant coach for Terry Porter at the Milwaukee Bucks, which also added to his net worth.

Thanks to his career, Jerome received several awards, including induction into the Longwood’s Hall Of Fame in 2005, and in 2008, he was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall Of Fame. Furthermore, in 2015, he received the William Henry Ruffner Alumni Award.

Speaking about his personal life, Jerome Kersey married his long-time girlfriend Teri Donnerberg in 2013 – Jerome had a daughter, and Teri three children from previous relationships. They lived in Lake Oswego, Oregon, where Jerome passed away from a blood clot that causing a pulmonary embolism at the age of 52.
