Jens grew up in Maple Valley in Washington, often the victim of abuse from an alcoholic father. Being introduced to mixed martial arts by a friend, he began wrestling at a young age. Pulver attended Tahoma Senior High School and wrestled for them, then began boxing in his junior year of high school and went on to win two state championships. Jens enrolled into Highline Community College, and was boxing and wrestling for them as well, although suffering from wrist injuries, he had to stop his career temporarily. Pulver eventually earned a college degree, graduating in criminal justice from Boise State University, meantime participating in several underground fighting events.
He befriended the owner of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy and went on to compete in MMA there. Starting his mixed martial arts career, he lost a few matches due to lack of practice and experience, but soon proved to be a good fighter, and his performance is said to have impressed the UFC matchmaker John Perretti. Pulver began competing officially in the UFC in 1999, earning several victories including against the top ranked Japanese Fighter, Caol Uno. Due to his notable skills, Pulver became the first UFC Lightweight Champion, and successfully defended his title in forthcoming matches against Dennis Hallman and B.J. Penn. However, in the following period, he decided to leave the UFC.
Jens subsequently began his professional boxing career. He made a name for himself and gained a reputation by winning all of his four matches in 2004. At the same time, he was fighting in several promotion companies including Shooto and Pride. His performance in Pride was widely recognized and was seen as the best boxing match in an MMA bout. In his final Pride fight, he defeated his opponent with a soccer hit to the head.
Jens went on to return to the UFC, but faced a loss in a match with Joe Lauzon. He subsequently appeared as a coach on the reality television show ‘’The Ultimate Fighter 5’’. Pulver then announced that he would participate in World Extreme Cage-fighting, winning a few bouts but also suffering several losses, and so ended up being released from the competition. As of his more recent past, Pulver participated in ONE Championship, but eventually retired in 2014.
Pulver subsequently made a cameo appearance in series four of “The Vanilla Ice Project” on the DIY Network. As Little Evil, he is also a member of Red Harbinger, a video gaming team. Plus the team have been used by Rob Van Winkle (aka Vanilla Ice) to supply custom computers for his video game room in his Florida mansion. Jens net worth continues to rise.
