Jeffrey T. Burton Wiki Biography
Jeffrey T. Burton was born on 29 June 1967, in South Boston, Virginia USA. He is a retired professional stock car racing driver and a NASCAR on NBC broadcaster, best known for having 21 career victories in the Sprint Cup Series.
So just how rich is Jeff Burton at present? According to sources, Burton has acquired a net worth of over $45 million, as of late-2016, accumulating this fortune mostly during his racing career which spanned over 20 years.
Following in the footsteps of his older brother Ward Burton, a retired Sprint Cup driver and Daytona 500 winner, Burton made his professional racing debut in NASCAR’s Nationwide Series in 1988, and won his first career victory in 1990. Three years later, he made his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, driving for Fill Matrocci of FILMAR Racing team. In 1994 he joined the Stavola Brothers Racing team and earned the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year honors. Two years later, driving for the Roush Racing, he won his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole award, and in 1997 scored his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory. His net worth started to rise.
In the following three years, Burton went on to score 14 more victories, winning an event at NHIS every year, never finishing lower than fifth in the points standings. The year 2000 became his career-best season, in which he scored three wins and finished third in the championship, becoming the last NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver to lead 100 percent of the laps in a NASCAR-sanctioned event. The following year he captured another two victories. Burton’s success in the ‘90s and early 2000s made him a star in the racing world and considerably added to his wealth.
After winless 2002 and 2003 seasons, he left Roush Racing in 2004, after over eight years with the team, in which he scored 17 out of his total 21 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories. The same year he signed with Richard Childress Racing. Burton also raced in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, winning the NASCAR Nationwide Series owner’s championship trophy in 2007, sharing the driving responsibilities with teammate Scott Wimmer. His best season with RCR came the following year, scoring two victories, seven top five and 18 top 10 finishes, and an overall finish of sixth in the championship. His net worth was considerably boosted.
The following seasons were less successful for Burton. In 2013, his last year with RCR, he made his 1,000th start across NASCAR’s three national series, a milestone achieved by only five other drivers. In 2014, the driver ran a limited schedule for Michael Waltrip Racing’s research-and-development team, Identity Ventures Racing. Later that year, he drove for Stewart–Haas Racing. As of 2015, he has served as a color analyst for NBC Sports.
During his 22-year NASCAR career, Burton has started in 695 races, scoring 21 victories, six pole awards, 134 top-five and 254 top-10 finishes, and making three Chase appearances. This has enabled him to amass significant net worth.
Speaking about Burton’s private life, he has been married to his high school sweetheart Kim, since 1992. The couple has two children together, their son Harrison being a NASCAR driver as well. The family resides in Huntersville, North Carolina.
Burton is an active humanitarian, being involved in charitable causes such as that of Duke Children’s Hospital.
