Born Jeffrey William Van Gundy on the 19th January 1962, in Hemet, California USA, and is a basketball coach, and color commentator, best known for leading such teams as the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks. His career has been active since the 1980s.
Have you ever wondered how rich Jeff Van Gundy is, as of mid- 2016? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Jeff Van Gundy`s net worth is as high as $14 million, an amount he has acquired through his successful career in the sport of basketball.
Jeff’s father Bill is a former basketball coach, and older brother Stan Van Gundy is also a basketball coach, currently leading the Detroit Pistons. He grew up in Martinez, California, and went to high school in Brockport Central District, where he played basketball in the point-guard position. Following his high school matriculation, Jeff enrolled at Yale University, but then moved to Menlo College, and eventually graduated from Nazareth College, where he played basketball for the college team, and received All American honors in 1984.
After graduation in 1985, he followed the footsteps of his father and brother, and ventured into the coaching business, and assumed the position of head coach of McQuaid Jesuit High School men`s basketball team for the 1985-1986 season. After that, Jeff was hired as graduate assistant under Rick Pitino at Providence College, and for the 1987-1988 season he was appointed as assistant coach under Gordon Chiesa. His net worth was well set.
Before he assumed the position of assistant coach at the New York Knicks, Jeff spent a season at Rutgers University, under head coach Bob Wenzel. He was appointed as assistant coach of the New York Knicks in 1989, and was in that position until 1996, when he became the head coach. During his tenure as assistant, head coaches took turns, Stu Jackson for the 1989-1990 season, John McCloud for 1990-19991, Pat Riley from 1991 until 1995 and Don Nelson 1995-1996.
He was promoted to Knicks` head coach before the end of the 1995-1996 season, and led them to the Conference Semifinals, and one NBA Finals, against the San Antonio Spurs and Greg Popovich, but his team lost 4:1 in the series.
During his tenure at the Knicks, his net worth increased by a large margin; in 2001 he resigned from position, after recording 10 wins and nine losses in the first 19 games. Two years later, Jeff was appointed head coach of the Houston Rockets, and served in that position until 2007. He didn`t have much success with the new team, as he only reached play-offs, but was eliminated in the first rounds.
Following his departure from Houston, Jeff was a guest analyst for ESPN’s broadcast of game between Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs. But soon after, he was appointed permanently in the position of color commentator for ESPN, which also increased his net worth.
He is also recognized in the NBA, for recording several funny and dangerous moments in the league; Marcus Camby had hit him, instead of the referee after he was dissatisfied with a call; and also he was pushed by Larry Johnson, after Jeff tried to break-up a fight between Larry and Alonzo Mourning. Jeff ended clinging to Alonzo`s leg, in order not to fall on the ground.
Regarding his personal life, Jeff has been married to Kim since 1990; the couple has one child together.
