Jay Asher Wiki Biography
Jay Asher was born on the 30th September 1975, in Arcadia, California USA, and is a writer, best known to the world for his young-adult fiction novel “Thirteen Reasons Why”, which was most recently picked up by Netflix for a TV series.
Have you ever wondered how rich Jay Asher is, as of early 2018? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Asher’s net worth is over $20 million, an amount earned through his successful career, active since the mid- 2000s.
Jay went to San Luis Obispo High School, where he started showcasing his interest in the written word, and his first two children’s books were written while he was a part of the Children’s Literature Appreciation class. Following his matriculation, Jay wanted to become an elementary teacher and enrolled at California Polytechnic University, but after three years Jay experienced a change of heart, and decided to pursue writing as a full-time career.
Before his writing career really took off, Jay worked as a shoe store salesman and also worked in libraries and bookstores, which he later used to influence his writing.
His first book “Thirteen Reasons Why”, a story about high school student Hannah Baker who commits suicide after experiencing bullying and betrayal by her high school friends, quickly became a New York Times bestseller, increasing Jay’s net worth to a large degree. He also won several awards for his work, and a five stars review from Teen Book Review. He continued writing young-adult fiction novels, and in 2011 published his second book “The Future of Us”, which he co-wrote with Carolyn Mackler. The book follows two teenagers and their descent into social media platforms before Facebook was even discovered. His second book wasn’t quite as successful as his debut publication, though it certainly increased his net worth, and especially after he sold the rights for a film to Warner Bros.
His third book, “What Light”, saw the light of day in 2016, and it follows a girl named Sierra and her journey with a guy named Caleb. The book received mixed to positive reviews, and the sales also contributed to his net worth. Jay’s wealth increased to a large extent later that year when his first book “Thirteen Reasons Why” was picked up by Netflix and made into a TV series, starring Dylan Minnette, Katherine Langford, and Christian Navarro.
When it comes to his personal life, Jay has been married to Joan Marie since September 2007; the couple has three children together. Most recently, in early 2018, anonymous allegations of sexual harassment were levelled against Asher, which he has denied, but controversially the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators decided to expel him anyway, although Asher says that he left of his own volition.
