During his childhood, Jason was drawn to the theater, attending a number of plays held at Arena Stage in Washington D.C. While in high school, Jason was president of the drama club, but wasn’t much of an actor, and rather built sets. Following his high school matriculation, Jason became an usher at the Eisenhower Theater in Washington, D.C, but also enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University, from which he obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting, and then joined the Actors Theatre of Louisville as an apprentice, before settling in New York City, where he enrolled at the Tisch School of the Arts graduating with a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1997.
Even before finishing his acting studies, Jason commenced his acting career, making his stage debut at the Shafer Street Theatre in Richmond, Virginia in the play “What I Did Last Summer”.
Four years later, he appeared in the play “The History of Hell”, at Theater Downtown Art Company. From 1997, Jason started getting more attention and became a frequent cast member of plays at several New York theaters, appearing in such plays as “Henry VIII” (1997), “Macbeth” (1999), “An Experiment with an Air Pump” (1999), “Juno and the Paycock” (2000), then “Crimes of the Heart” (2001), and “Five Flights” (2004), among many others. In 2004 he had his breakthrough with the role of Tesman in the play “Hedda Gabbler”, for which he received an Obie Award, and then in 2005 appeared in the play “The Paris Letter”, for which he was nominated for the Drama Desk Award. He has made several other significant appearances in plays to the present day, including in “The Cherry Orchard” (2006), “The Front Page” (2007), “The Skin of Our Teeth” (2011), and most recently in “The Crucible” (2016), among many others that only increased his wealth.

Tiller in the TV series “Alcatraz”, then appeared in several episodes of the highly-acclaimed series “The Blacklist” in 2014, and in 2015 played Varick Strauss in the TV crime-drama series “Ray Donovan”, which only increased his wealth.
