Have you ever wondered how much wealth this “versatile celebrity” has accumulated so far? How rich Janet Mock is? According to sources, it is estimated that the total of Janet Mock’s net worth, as of early 2018, revolves around the sum of $1 million, acquired primarily through her journalistic career that has been active since mid-2000s.
Janet is the younger of two children of Elizabeth and Charlie Mock III, and apart from Hawaiian and African American, is also partly of European ancestry on her mother’s side. Janet’s childhood was split between Hawaii, Oakland California, and Dallas Texas. During the first year of high school, Janet began her gender change transition. In the course of the next several years, Mock acquired money by being a sex worker, and at the age of 18 traveled to Thailand and underwent the sex reassignment surgery from male-to-female. Ever since, she has been called Janet after the famous American singer and artist, Janet Jackson. She attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa from which she graduated in 2004, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Merchandising. Mock later continued her education by obtaining her Master of Arts degree in Journalism in 2006 from New York University.
She began her career right after graduation at the People magazine, serving as its staff editor over the course of the next five years. To greater prominence Janet came in 2011 when she was featured in Kierna Mayo’s article about trans-gender women published in Marie Claire magazine. She was then featured in the “It Gets Better” project, and has written numerous articles for magazines such as Marie Claire, The Huffington Post, The Advocate and Elle. All these endeavors have helped Janet to make a name for herself, also providing the basis for her current net worth.
In February 2014, Janet published her first book, her memoirs entitled “Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More” which subsequently became a New York Times’ bestseller. After abandoning her position as the editor of people.com, Janet joined MSNBC’s Shift network, where she began hosting “Take Part Live” as well as her own on-camera show, named “So POPular!” In addition, Mock had also been featured as a guest host of “The Melissa Harris-Perry Show”, and served as the Global Citizen Festival’s host, also covering the White House Correspondent’s Dinner from the red carpet. Since then Janet has also been serving as a special correspondent for CBS’ news magazine “Entertainment Tonight”. It is certain that all these accomplishments helped Janet Mock to add a sum to the total of her net worth.
In 2016 Janet served as the producer of HBO’s documentary movie “The Trans List”, and also wrote cover stories for Mark Seliger’s “On Christopher Street: Transgender Stories” photo book, while in 2017 Mock published her second book, entitled “Surpassing Certainty”. Doubtlessly, all theses ventures have made an impact on the size of Janet Mock’s net worth by increasing her revenues by a large margin.
Apart from all those already mentioned, Janet is also a board member of a charity organization focused on LGBT rights named the Arcus Foundation. For all her efforts and activism, Mock was honored with the Sylvia Rivera Activist Award in 2012, while in 2015 she earned the Stonewall Book Award as well as a Lambda Literary Award nomination for her literary works.
When it comes to her personal life, Janet Mock has been married since November 2015 to photographer Aaron Tredwell with whom she resides in New York City.
