James Pickens Jr. Wiki Biography
James Pickens Jr. was born on the 26th October 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio USA, and is a stage, movie and television actor who is probably best known for his role of Dr. Richard Webber in ABC’s TV series, a medical drama – “Grey’s Anatomy”. He is also widely recognized for his appearances in “The X-Files” and “Private Practice” TV series, as well as for his roles in movies such as “Sphere” (1998), “Just Wright” (2010) and “42” (2013).
Have you ever wondered how much wealth this talented actor has accumulated so far? How rich James Pickens Jr. is? According to sources, it is estimated that James Pickens Jr. net worth as of early 2017, surpasses the sum of $3 million, acquired through his acting career which is now spanning over 37 years.
Although he wanted to become a comic book illustrator, while studying at Bowling Green State University in his home town, from which he graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, James discovered his passion for acting. His first acting experience came with a role in the campus stage production “Matters of Choice”, then upon graduation, James transferred to New York City where he got involved with the Roundabout Theatre Company, and officially debuted as an actor in early 1980 in the critically acclaimed, stage production “A Raisin in the Sun”. In 1981, James appeared in Negro Ensemble Company’s stageplay “A Soldier’s Play”, opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Denzel Washington. All these engagements, besides providing the basis for his net worth, also gave him necessary acting experience, and helped James to sharpen his acting skills.
James’ big screen debut occurred in 1986, when he appeared as an ambulance driver in Robert Mandel’s action thriller “F/X”. He then relocated to Los Angeles, California, and later that year was cast in the role of Zack Edwards in the soap opera “Another World” which he continuously played ’til 1990. After appearing in the role of Chuck Mitchell in the comedy TV series “Roseanne”, James began gaining more and more attention – he reprised this role in 19 episodes of the following six seasons until 1996. Between 1991 and 1992, he was Henry Thomas in popular teenage TV series “Beverly Hills, 90210”, so all these roles helped James to establish himself as a prominent actor, and significantly increased his net worth.
Throughout the rest of the 1990s as well as 2000s, James managed to maintain a continuous streak of acting engagements, and appeared in several other popular TV series such as “Something So Right”, “Brooklyn South”, “Jag”, “Any Day Now”, “NYPD Blue” as well as “City of Angels”, “The Practice”, “Philly” and “The Lyon’s Den”.
Apart from television, James added several movie roles to his acting portfolio, including “Jimmy Hollywood” (1994), “Nixon” (1995), “Red Dragon” (2002) and “Venom” (2005). However, the real breakthrough in his career came in 2005, with the role of Dr. Richard Webber in the globally popular medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy”; to date he has appeared in the show’s 282 episodes, and between 1997 and 1999 he reprised this role in show’s spin-off TV series “Private Practice” too. It is certain that all these ventures have helped James Pickens Jr. to massively boost his wealth – allegedly, since 2007 James has been earning $125,000 per episode of “Grey’s Anatomy”.
Apart from acting, in 2006 James produced “Gospel! Gospel! Gospel!” – a musical revue which took place at Karamu House Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio. James Pickens Jr. is an avid rodeo competitor too – he owns a horse and regularly participates in roping events across the states in the US Team Roping Championship.
When it comes to his personal life, James Pickens Jr. is managing to keep it largely private and away from cameras. He has been married since 1984 to Gina Taylor with whom he has two sons who are apparently pursuing careers in showbiz.
