James Christopher Frey, born on the 12th of September, 1969, is an American writer, producer and director, who became famous for his best-selling novels. He was surrounded with controversy when his memoir “A Million Little Pieces” was proved to be untrue.

So how much is Frey’s net worth? As of early 2017, based on authoritative sources, it is reported to be $4.5 million, acquired from his years as a writer, the sales of his book.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Frey moved a lot during his childhood years. He was able to finish his high school education in 1988, and later on attended Denison University. After graduating, he started working as a writer while also pursuing a higher education at Art Institute of Chicago.

After some time, Frey moved to Los, Angeles where he started working in Hollywood as a screenwriter, producer, and director. in 1998, he was able to write two screenplays, “Kissing a Fool” and “Sugar: The Fall of the West” which he also turned into movies as its director. His early years in Hollywood helped set up his career and also started his net worth.

In 1996, it was this time that Frey started his soon-to-be best-selling memoir “A Million Little Pieces”. In the book, he shared his struggles with drug addiction and alcohol and his road to recovery at a rehabilitation center in Mnnesota.

Years later, in 2003 Doubleday publishing published his book “A Million Little Pieces”. The book immediately gained popularity when editors at Amazon.com hailed it as their favourite book of the year. Soon it reached television personality Oprah Winfrey and the book became part of her book club.

The positive media attraction gained by the book led “A Million Little Pieces” to be an instant best-seller. The performance of the book not only catapulted Frey to the limelight but also tremendously increased his wealth.In 2005, Frey wrote a follow up for “A Million Little Pieces” entitled “My Friend Leonard”. The book tells the story of Frey’s relationship with his father and his friend Leonard. The book also became a best-seller, with Amazon.com selecting it as their No. favourite book of the year.

After enjoying much success with his book, in 2006 Frey faced controversy when The Smoking Gun published a report claiming that his supposed to be memoir “A Million Little Pieces” was full of false information. Frey later on admitted that he did change some facts about his story. This caused lots of backlash for his reputation and his book.

After the controversy of his previous work Frey decided to move forward and continue writing. In 2008, he released a new book entitled “Bright Shiny Morning” which became a best-seller. He also wrote a book called “The Final Testament of the Holy Bible” where he shared his views about God.

Frey also ventured in writing fictional books. He worked with Nils Johnson-Shelton and together they wrote “Endgame: The Calling”. Other fictional books that he wrote included “The Lorien Legacies”, in which “I Am Number Four” became the first book on the series, and “Black Knight Decoded”. The sales of his book became the main source of his net worth.

Today, Frey continued to write and is also the CEO of publishing company Full Fathom Five.
