James David Maslow was born on 16 July 1990, in New York City, USA, of Jewish descent. James is a singer and actor, best known to have starred in Nickelodeon’s “Big Time Rush” as James Diamond. He is also a member of the boy band of the same name, and all of his endeavors have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is James Maslow? As of mid-2016, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $6 million, mostly earned through success in acting and music. Aside from “Big Time Rush”, he was also a part of the series “Sequestered”, as Kevin Mohr. He also competed in “Dancing with the Stars” during its 18th season, and as he continues his career it is expected that his wealth will increase.
When he was six years old, James’ parents placed him in the San Diego Children’s Choir, which would train him as a singer. He also participated in a production of “La Boheme” when he was 10 years old, and later attended La Jolla Playhouse to study acting. Four years later, he would perform in a production of “Les Miserables”. He attended San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, but later transferred to Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) where he would graduate in 2007 as part of the musical theatre department.
In 2007, Nickelodeon started casting for their planned sitcom “Big Time Rush”, and Maslow successfully auditioned, getting the role two years later. “Big Time Rush” is a pop group consisting of him, Kendall Schmidt, Carlos Pena Jr., and Logan Henderson. James became one of the lead vocalists of the band, and their first release entitled “BTR” would certify gold in 2011. They then worked on their second album – “Elevate” – which sold 70,000 copies. Most of the songs were co-written by him, and they then worked on their 2013 album “24/Seven”, before going on tour to promote the album, alongside Victoria Justice. In 2014, they went on the “Big Time Rush Live 2014 World Tour”, travelling to several countries. Overall, the success of “Big Time Rush” can be seen in their record sales reaching more than 21 million worldwide.
Even with his commitments to Big Time Rush, James still does acting work, and he made a guest appearance in “iCarly”. In 2012, he appeared in “See Dad Run”, and was later featured by FitnessRx Magazine. He also does other music projects, sometimes posting on his YouTube channel. He’s made covers of several songs including Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” and Marron 5’s “Love Somebody”. He doesn’t post regularly due to other projects, but since 2015 he’s endeavoured to post almost every week.
In 2014, he participated in the 18th season of “Dancing with the Stars”, partnered with Peta Murgatroyd. They would go on and make it to the finals of the season, but was eliminated on the first night, getting fourth place.

James David Maslow Quotes
- I’m definitely a religious and spiritual person, however, as sad as it is, I don’t have the time to be a practicing Jew these days. Frankly, after going to Hebrew school six days a week for many years, I decided not to go to temple as much as I got older. But, I love spending time with my Jewish friends in LA. On any High Holiday, I really try and actually take a break from work and spend time with my family… I love my religion. I was never Orthodox or raised that way. In fact, my mother is Catholic, so there’s a little difference there. The bloodline is passed down through the mother, but I was bar mitzvahed and raised Jewish. I believe in religion wholeheartedly. Ironic as it is and maybe sad as it is, I don’t have time to practice. But, I’m okay with that these days because I know what I believe in, and I don’t think that it really offends anybody. It’s a different time these days than when my parents, and especially my grandparents, were around.
- Both singing and acting are so rewarding that I couldn’t pick between the two.
- Singing is what got me into everything and made me fall in love with this industry
