When Ivy was young, her family moved to New York City where she attended school until the 11th grade. She studied at the New Jersey School of Performing Arts, however, she did not manage to finish high school, apparently living in poverty during her time in Puerto Rico and New York. When she turned 18 years old, she moved to San Juan and would meet producer DJ Negro. In 1995, she joined a group called The Noise which would find popularity in the reggaeton scene. Her first appearance was on a track called “Somos Raperos Pero No Delincuentes”. She recorded her first solo album in 1997 entitled “En Mi Imperio” which produced the hit single “Como Mujer”. The following year, she would then release her second album entitled “The Original Rude Girl”, featuring hip hop music and showcasing Queen’s bilingual abilities. The album was unsuccessful, but the song “In the Zone” charted on the Billboard Rhythmic Top 40. In 1999 she was dropped by Sony, and decided to take a break from her music career. She resurfaced in 2001, appearing in several reggaeton compilation albums. Two years later, she signed with the independent label Real Music, and would appear in the label’s first album entitled “Jams Vol. 1”. Her net worth was rising again.
In 2003, she would release her third studio album entitled “Diva” and it was responsible for exposing reggaeton to the mainstream audience. The album was highly successful and was certified platinum, being nominated during the 2005 Billboard Latin Music Awards in the “Reggaeton Album of the Year” category. and it also helped increase her net worth significantly. She then released her fourth album “Real”, which was her first full-length English album. The album spawned the single “Dile” which reached the Top 10.
In 2005, Ivy would partner with Jose Guadalupe to form the record label Filtro Musik. They then signed with Univision Records to promote her fifth album entitled “Flashback”, which would be nominated for “Reggaeton Album of the Year” during the 2006 Billboard Latin Music Awards, after which she released her first compilation album “The Best of Ivy Queen”. She also received the first Premio Juventud “Diva Award” in honor of her musical achievements. Her sixth album “Sentimiento” was released in 2007 and it contained the hit single “Que Lloren”, again boosting her net worth..
In 2008, Ivy released her first live album “Ivy Queen 2008 World Tour LIVE!” while on tour, partnering with several sponsors. She then released “Drama Queen” in 2010; according to her it was about an emotional time in her life, and the album would peak at number 163 on the US Billboard 200 chart and number three at the Top Latin Albums chart. One of her latest projects is her ninth studio album entitled “Vendetta”; an extended play version of the album called “Vendetta: First Round” was later released. The constant releases of her albums have certainly helped maintain her net worth.
For her personal life, it is known that Ivy was married to reggaeton singer Omar Navarro also known as Gran Omar, from 1994 to 2005, when it ended with a lot of controversy from both parties, with each accusing the other of being unfaithful in their relationship.
