India Arie Simpson Wiki Biography
India Arie Simpson was born on the 3rd October 1975, in Denver, Colorado USA. She is a musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, who is probably best known for winning four Grammy Awards for her albums, including “Open Door”, “Acoustic Soul”, and “Songversation”. She is also recognized as an actress. Her career has been active since 1994.
So, have you ever wondered how rich India Arie is, as of mid- 2016? Sources estimate that India’s net worth is over $4.5 million, with the main source of this amount of money being. Beside that, she has also earned a part of her wealth through her acting skills, as she has appeared in several television and film titles.
India Arie was brought up with two younger siblings by her parents Joyce, who is currently her stylist and a former singer, and Ralph Simpson, a retired professional NBA player. Thus, under the influence of her mother, she began singing. At the age of 13, her parents divorced, and she moved with her mother to Atlanta, Georgia. India attended Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Georgia; however, according to sources from the college, she didn’t graduate, as she quit education to pursue her career in music.
India’s musical career started in the late 1990s, when she co-founded indie music collective entitled Groovement EarthShare. However, she soon focused on her solo career after her first song was released, as she was spotted by a talent agent who then introduced her to Kedar Massenburg, a former CEO of Motown records. After the audition, India signed a contract with Motown, and her career was ready to be launched. Her first album came out in 2001, entitled “Acoustic Soul”, reaching No. 3 on the US R&B chart, and achieving double platinum status, which certainly increased India’s net worth, and also encouraged her to continue with her musical career.
She continued in the same rhythm with her second album named “Voyage To India”, which was released the following year, and it topped the US R&B chart, and reached No. 3 on the US Billboard 200 chart, increasing further her net worth. Her third release was her best so far, entitled “Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship” (2006); it topped both US R&B and US Billboard 200 chart, and it also achieved gold status.
Since then, her career has begun to decline, with albums “Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics” (2009), “Songversation” (2013), which got sold only a few copies above 100,000, culminating with her latest release “Christmas With Friends” (2015), which only reached No. 107 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
Apart from her career on the music scene, India has also started an acting career, appearing as renowned singer Nina Simone in the TV series “American Dreams” in 2003, then as Lateefah in the film “Pastor Brown” (2009), and most recently she appeared in an episode of the TV series “Zoe Ever After” (2016), which also contributed a lot to the overall size of her net worth.
Thanks to her skills, India has received several prestigious awards, including Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album for her album “Voyage To India”, and Best Urban/Alternative Performance for her song “Little Things”, among others.
If to talk about her personal life, India Arie has been in a relationship with Chris Tucker since 2007. Previously, she dated Musiq Soulchild. She has never been married and she has no children yet. Her current residence is in Atlanta, Georgia.
