However, Stern is also known for his other ventures. In 1994, Stern ran for the position of the Governor of New York and even went on a political campaign that lasted for five months. Stern is also a published writer, who debuted with his very first book titled “Private Parts” in 1993. Even though his first book received mixed reviews, his second attempt with “Miss America” was more successful. The book sold over 1.3 million copies and became Stern’s fastest-selling book to date. Howard Stern was born in 1954, in Queens, New York City. Stern’s interest in radio began at the early age of five, when he was listening to various radio stations. Stern’s family then moved out to Rockville Center, where he began attending a local high school and later studied at the School of Public Communications. With the radio-telephone license in his hands, Stern was able to make a debut in the WNTN radio station in 1975 where he worked as a newscaster. After Howard Stern’s graduation, he went on to work at the progressive rock station WRNW, as well as other stations in New York, Connecticut and Washington D.C. Several years later, Stern came out with “The Howard Stern Show”, which brought him to the limelight and significantly contributed to his overall fame. In addition to working as a radio host, Howard Stern has made several appearances on the television too. He starred in several films, including “Howard Stern’s US Open Sores” and “Private Parts”, which is a film adaptation of his first novel of the same title. Currently, Stern is appearing as a judge on one of the most popular reality series “America’s Got Talent”, and prior to that he starred in his own “Howard TV” television show.

Howard Stern Quotes
- [When asked about his political leanings] I’ve voted for some Republicans, too, but I feel like I’m more of a liberal.
- I have a tremendous compassion for people who are homosexuals. I feel that they are bullied and abused in our society… They just treat them so poorly. It must be a terrible thing to be exposed to that kind of hatred and be hated just because of your sexuality.
- [on his sex life in high school] “Our rap was that if girls could only look beyond the fact that we didn’t have great looks and see that we have great personalities, they would fall in love with us. The truth of the matter was we had really bad personalities in addition to our ugly faces. Even the losers called us losers. And we were.”
- I like music that makes me want to kill myself.
- On the movie Forrest Gump (1994): I just wish for once Hollywood would make a realistic movie about retarded people, where a retarded guy leaves his house, people stare at him for a while and then lock him up.
- I’ve always thought that a name says a lot about a person. So naturally, being named Howard, I always wanted to crawl into a hole.
- “This country has too many freedoms.” (January 2002)
- Writing a book just might be the hardest thing I’ve ever done, besides trying to get laid in college.
- I always resented the label of ‘shock jock’ that the press came up with for me. Because I never intentionally set out to shock anybody.
- “Standards have gone to an all-time low and I’m here to represent them.” – April 1, 1998 upon announcing his new Saturday night late show on CBS.
