Henry Jackson Thomas, Jr. was born on 9 September 1971, in San Antonio, Texas USA, to Carolyn, a homemaker, and Henry Jackson Thomas, a hydraulic machinist, of Welsh descent. He is an actor and musician, perhaps best known for his role as Elliott Taylor in Steven Spielberg’s film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” as well as for his roles in the films “Legends of the Fall”, “All the Pretty Horses” and “Gangs of New York”.

A noted actor, how wealthy is Henry Thomas”? Sources state that Thomas has acquired a net worth of over $1.5 million, as of late-2016, accumulated during his career as an actor and musician now spanning 35 years.

Thomas grew up in San Antonio where he attended East Central High School. He later enrolled in Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, to study philosophy and history, but eventually dropped out to focus on his acting career.

He made his film debut when he was ten years old, with the role of Harry, Jr. in the 1981 “Raggedy Man”, for which he received a nomination for Young Artist Award for Best Leading Young Actor in a Feature Film. The following year he landed a leading role as a young boy, Elliot who adopts an E.T. in Spielberg’s science fiction fantasy film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”. The success following the film’s release made Thomas a star, and considerably added to his net worth.

The young actor then took some time off from his acting career to focus on school, occasionally making small film and television appearances; he returned to acting in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. After several minor film and television parts, he landed the role of Samuel Ludlow in the 1994 drama film epic “Legends of the Fall”, starring Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins and Aidan Quinn. The film became highly successful, boosting Thomas’ popularity and his wealth as well. He went on to land roles in numerous films on the big screen and television films during the 90s, including “Bombshell”, “Indictment: The McMartin Trial”, “Niagara, Niagara”, “Riders of the Purple Sage” and “Suicide Kings”.

In 2000 he was cast in a leading role as Lacey Rawlins in the romantic western film “All the Pretty Horses”. Two years later he played Johnny Sirocco in the acclaimed period drama epic “Gangs of New York”. His other notable roles of the early 2000s include the films “Honey Baby”, “I Capture the Castle”, “11:14” and “Dead Birds”. In 2007-08 he had a recurring role as Franklin Romar in the television series “Without a Trace”, and went on to land leading roles in numerous films, including “The Hard Easy”, “The Last Sin Eater”, “Red Velvet” and “Dear John”. He starred as musician Hank Williams Jr. in the 2011 drama film “The Last Ride”. In 2013 he was cast as T.J. Karsten in the ABC television series “Betrayal”, remaining in the main cast until the show’s cancellation the following year. All added to his net worth..Thomas’ most recent television appearance was as John Adams in the 2015 miniseries “Sons of Liberty”. He is currently filming the supernatural horror film “Ouija: Origin of Evil” announced to be released in fall 2016.

Aside from acting, Thomas has also pursued a singing career. Back in the ‘90s, he wrote songs, sang, and played guitar for his band called The Blue Heelers. Upon the group’s disbandment in the late ‘90s, he went on with writing and recording songs, some of them being featured in the film “Honey Baby”, which added to his wealth.

Speaking about his personal life, Thomas has been married twice, firstly to actress Kelly Hill, from 2000 to 2002. In 2004 he married German actress Marie Zielcke, with whom he has one child. The couple divorced in 2007. Sources believe Thomas is single at present.

Henry Thomas Quotes

  • It’s harder to laugh than to cry.
  • It’s really important to go back to where you come from.
  • Many times you walk into a room and people have already made up their minds. But it’s always good to have something great associated with you.
  • The idea of a film staying in theaters for a year is something of a fantasy today.
  • The one thing I’ve always done is to try not to over complicate anything.
  • I don’t know if I was so much of an outsider until after I started doing films. That put me on the outside. I grew up in Texas, and I wasn’t the child of industry parents, and I didn’t have a lot of friends in the industry or anything like that.
  • I grew up in a rural area, I was from kind of a poor family and my parents weren’t showbiz people. But going back was strange, and perhaps stranger for the other students.
  • I understood why films were made, and if they made a lot of money, they were successful. All of these things I knew. As a ten-year-old boy, I didn’t really think a lot about finances or celebrity. I always viewed films as kind of what I imagined a summer camp to be like.
  • I would inevitably get the girls who were interested in me because I was the guy from E.T. It was kind of tough. I can’t deny ever capitalizing upon it but on the whole in my teens I was pretty virtuous.
  • It was like that for the first six months after ‘E.T.’ was in cinemas. I’d go out and get mobbed. I was a shy kid, and being approached by adults all the time just freaked me out.
  • Of course there have been times I regretted being the kid in ‘E.T.’ My world went completely crazy. I was that stupid kind of famous, where you can’t go anywhere.
  • I probably complicate things unnecessarily now just to give the illusion of professionalism.
  • I have horses, I drive a truck, and I wear cowboy boots. First I’m a Texan.
  • Carloads of tourists would photograph the family mailbox, and there was weird mail, death threats.
  • Even if I had a tuxedo I wouldn’t wear it to school.
  • I can’t stay in L.A. too long or it starts to grow on me in a bad way.
  • I don’t know if there aren’t any films like ‘E.T.’ anymore. I just feel that the industry has changed so much. There are so many outlets now.
  • I think it’s great when girls are artistic.
  • I was getting a lot of hassles from the public. Everybody recognized me.
  • I’ve got a lot of crazy plans.
  • If I can generate enough income, I’d like to get a castle, a historic castle that I can restore.
