Harambe Wiki Biography

Harambe was a western lowland gorilla, born on 27th May 1999 in Brownsville, Texas USA, and died on 28th May 2016 in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, shot dead after a three-year-old boy had fallen into the enclosure. The shooting of Harambe found a worldwide echo in the media, and led to controversial discussions in the social media.

How much was the net worth of Harambe? It has been reported by authoritative sources that the overall size of its wealth was as much as $1 million, converted to the present day, and based on his worth as a public attraction.

To begin with, Harambe was born at the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, southern Texas; it was named after the song “Harambe” by Rita Marley. On 18th September 2014, Harambe arrived at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.

On 28th May 2016, a three-year-old boy fell into the shallow moat of the gorilla enclosure. Guards immediately called the three gorillas in the outdoor enclosure back into the building. The two females followed the instructions, but not the 200 kilograms Harambe. He got to the child in the moat, and pulled the child by the leg through the water while the guards and onlookers called him. Then, he brought the child over a ladder to dry. It was decided to shoot the animal to protect the child, and a gunshot killed Harambe. He had the child with him at that time. It was discussed in the social media, whether the killing was justified; the child’s parents were charged by some with being responsible for the gorilla’s death, for allowing the child to scale the fence around the enclosure. The incident was filmed by viewers and posted on YouTube, and subsequently both the zoo and the child’s parents have been tried, but in both cases there were no convictions.

The primatologist Jane Goodall saw the video as proof that the gorilla wanted to protect the child. Later, however, she defended the decision to kill the gorilla, saying that at meetings of people with wild animals, sometimes decisions about life and death must be made swiftly.

The killing of Harambe led to the emergence of a number of Internet memes that spread quickly, with slogans such as “Dicks out for Harambe” created by comedian Brandon Wardell and “Bush did Harambe”. Harambe was even proposed as a candidate for the US presidential election! A team under the name of The Otaku Gang launched a game known as “Harambe vs Capcom”. A teenager launched a petition at the Dublin Zoo to name a newborn gorilla as Harambe Jr.

In the autumn of 2017, the replacement for Harambe came from the Lousiville Zoo. It was Mshindi, a western lowland gorilla, which is 29 years old.
