GZA Wiki Biography

Gary Grice was born on 22 August 1966, in Brooklyn, New York City USA. He is a rapper and songwriter, who also uses the stage names GZA and The Genius, and is best known as a founding member of the hip-hop group the Wu-Tang Clan. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is GZA? As of mid-2016, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $15 million, mostly earned through a successful career in the music industry. Aside from being with the Wu-Tang Clan, he’s also had a successful solo career, and has collaborated with various other artists. As he continues his career his wealth will likely continue to increase.

As a child, Gary became interested in hip-hop after attending block parties, and subsequently decided to form a group with his cousins, Russel Jones and Robert Diggs. The group was called FOI: Force of the Imperial Master, and they often performed as Djs too. They would travel around New York City and challenge other groups to rap battles. After a while, GZA was noticed, and he signed with Cold Chillin’ Records as a solo artist with the stage name The Genius. He released his first album “Words from the Genius” but it didn’t sell well, and he also had a bad tour experience. Eventually, GZA asked to be released form the label.

He then helped create the Wu-Tang Clan, a group of nine artists including his cousins. They started to gain recognition after releasing their debut album “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)”. He continued to contribute on the Clan’s albums such as “Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version” and “Only Built 4 Cuban Links”, becoming very popular as part of the group, but then in 1995 he tried his hand at another solo album entitled “Liquid Swords”, which became very successful and received good reviews, increasing his net worth. Afterwards, Gary started to focus on directing music videos, plus production and writing. He directed three of his music videos and worked on GZA Entertainment which would become the main subject for his music, and boosted his net worth.

GZA then became part of the Wu-Tang Clan’s next album “Wu-Tang Forever”, before releasing another album, “Beneath the Surface”. He then worked with other members of the clan, but didn’t release another album until 2002, entitled “Legend of the Liquid Sword” and it had great reviews but did not sell well, so he then focused on touring for the next few years, which added to his net worth.

In 2005, he worked with DJ Muggs to release the LP “Grandmasters”. The album once again received good reviews, and sold better than his previous album. He worked on the Wu-Tang Clan’s album “8 Diagrams” before releasing another solo album “Pro Tools”. In 2009, the Clan released two more albums which GZA was a part of, and was part of a few songs from “Dopium” and would go on and make appearances fwith other group members. GZA has been recently working on a concept album “Dark Matter”.

For his personal life, nothoing is known of the private side, but GZA has denounced profanity in hip-hop saying that it is an unnecessary filler. He’s also focused on his interests in science, and hopes to help young people get motivated about science through rap.
