Gregory LeNoir “Gregg” Allman Wiki Biography
Gregory LeNoir “Gregg” Allman was born on the 8th December 1947 in Nashville, Tennessee USA, and was a singer and songwriter, best known for being the co-founder of the rock band the Allman Brothers Band. His career was active from the 1960s.
Have you ever wondered how rich Gregg Allman is as of mid-2017? According to sources, it has been estimated that the size of Allman’s net worth is over $20 million, which was accumulated through his successful career in the entertainment industry. He passed away in 2017.
Gregg Allman was born to Willis Turner Allman and Geraldine Robbins Allman, but was raised only by his mother, because he lost his father at the age of two, murdered by a hitchhiker. Thus, the family moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, where he started pursuing a career as a musician, together with his older brother, Duane. He matriculated in 1965 from Seabreeze High School, after which he attended Castle Heights Military Academy.
Gregg`s career began in the 1960s, when he and his brother formed the Allman Brothers Band, with Dickey Betts, Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson, Berry Oakley and Butch Trucks. This became the main source of Gregg`s net worth, since the band became popular in the early 1970s. In 1971, Gregg`s brother Duane died in a motorcycle accident, however, Gregg continued with the Allman Brothers, dedicating the album “Eat A Peach” released the following year to his brother. Before the band members decided to go on a hiatus, they released seven albums, including “At Fillmore East” (1971) – which was the band`s first live album, and the first to reach platinum certification – “Brothers And Sisters” (1973), which went platinum, then followed albums such as “Win, Lose Or Draw, and “Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil, Dollar Gas” which was a live album.
In 1978, the Allman Brothers regrouped, with the addition of Dan Toler on guitar, and now lasted until 1982, releasing three new albums, “Enlightened Rogues” (1979), “Reach For The Sky” (1980), and “Brothers Of The Road” (1981), which all added to Gregg`s overall net worth.
The band reformed again seven years later, and was active until 2014, when Gregg`s health worsened. During that period, the band released eight studio albums, all of which contributed to Gregg`s wealth. Some of the album titles include “Seven Turns” (1990), “Where It All Begins” (1994), which reached gold certification, “Peakin`At The Beacon” (2000), “Hittin` The Note” (2003), and their last “One Way Out” (2004) which is a live album.
Apart from his successful career with the band, Gregg also had a successful solo career, releasing six studio albums, some of which reached gold certification and which increased Gregg`s net worth by a large margin. Some of the albums are “Laid Back” (1973), “Playin` Up A Storm” (1977), “I Am No Angel” (1987), and his latest release “Low Country Blues” (2011).
Gregg also wrote the book entitled “My Cross To Bear” in 2012, which is regarded as his autobiography, and it certainly increased his net worth.
Thanks to his successful career as a musician, Gregg received several awards and recognitions, including induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and also into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
Regarding his personal life, Gregg Allman was married seven times and had five children. One of his wives was Cher, with whom he was married from 1975 to 1979, and they had a son Elijah Blue Allman, who is a musician as well. He latterly married Shannon Williams, 40 years younger, in February 2017.
In later years, Gregg had several health problems, including hepatitis C, and had lung surgery, but although he apparently recovered completely from that, he died from the effects of liver cancer on 27 May 2017 at his residence in Richmond Hill, Georgia.
