According to sources it has been estimated that Farahani’s overall net worth is $1 million, as of June 2017, acquired thanks to her talent in acting which brought her numerous important roles. So far, Golshifteh has 20 years of experience in the world of the entertainment industry, so her popularity continues to grow along with her net worth. Since she is still very active in the world of acting, her net worth also continues to increase.
Golshifteh was the daughter of theater actor and director, Behzad Farahani; this influenced her to a large degree, and she started studying music and playing the piano when she was just five years old. A year later she also started a theater career, then enrolled at a music school and continued developing her love for acting through music. She was cast as the lead in “The Pear Tree”(1998) film by Dariush Mehrjui when she was still a teenager, and this role earned her the Crystal Roc for Best Actress at the 16th Fajr International Film Festival. Apart from acknowledgement, this brought her considerable popularity, and made her into one of the Iranian cinema’s stars. Her popularity soon spread worldwide, as she was often given roles in internationally awarded movies. Some of her most popular films are Bahman Ghobadi’s “Half Moon” (2006) which won the Golden Seashell at the San Sebastian film festival, the controversial film “The Music Man” by Dariush Mehrjui which is still banned in Iran, and “M for Mother” by the late Rasool Mollagholi Poor which represented Iran at the 2008 Academy Awards, all boosting her net worth.
Thanks to her previous success and proven talent, Farahani was the first Iranian actress to start a Hollywood career, by starring in Ridley Scott’s “Body of Lies” (2008). However, due to the controversy of the film, it was reported that Golshifteh was banned from leaving Iran which was later proved wrong. The 2009 film “About Elly” earned her the best Narrative Feature at Tribeca and a Silver Bear in Berlin the same year.
Farahani has cooperated with numerous famous directors including Roland Joffe, Marjane Satrapi and Hiner Saleem, and was one of the members of the international jury at the 63rd Locarno Film Festival. Apart from her acting career and interest in movies and theatre, Golshifteh is very musical, and sings and plays several instruments including the piano. While still in Iran, she was a part of an underground rock band “Kooch Neshin”. which won the 1st prize at the 2nd Tehran Avenue underground rock competition. After leaving Iran, she teamed up with another Iranian musician, Mohsen Namjoo, and the two released the album “Ov” in October 2009. When it comes to her most recent activity, Farahani appeared in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” (2017) next to Johnny Depp and has two up-coming movies: “Rumi’s Kimia” and “Untouchable”, set for release in 2018.
Privately, Farahani has faced some problems after posing nude in the French “Madame Figaro”, and appearing topless in a film by Jean-Baptiste Mondino “Bodies and Souls”, as it was reported that the Iranian government officials stated she wouldn’t be welcome in her homeland again. Golshifteh was married to Amin Mahdavi for ten years until 2013. Two years later she married Christos Dorje Walker. She has a sister, Shaghayegh Farahani, who is also an actress.
