During her time with the company, she started writing novels, and released her first one in 2006 entitled “Sharp Objects”, about a serial killer and a reporter who returned home to cover the killings; it would win the CWA New Blood and Ian Fleming Steel Daggers awards. Her next book would be released in 2009 entitled “Dark Places”, about a woman who investigates the murder of her family, and if it indeed involved her incarcerated brother; the book was adapted into a film in 2015, and she made a cameo appearance in it.
In 2012, she released “Gone Girl” which is about a husband who searches for his wife who disappeared during their anniversary. The book would be adapted to a film as well, and would gain critical acclaim; the book also stayed on the top spot of the New York Times Hardcover Fiction Bestseller list for eight weeks, selling over two million copies, and rivalling the “Fifty Shades of Grey” books in terms of popularity. Gillian Flynn Quotes
- I’ve certainly been called a misogynist and that to me is strange. It feels so old-fashioned to think because you write about awful women that you don’t like women. To me, it’s worse to only write about good women. I’m tired of women as the supporting character, women as the helpmate, women as the adorably flawed heroine – she can be front and center, but only if she falls down a lot and has trouble with men.
