Gerald Peter Remy Wiki Biography
Gerald Peter Remy was born on the 8th November 1952, in Fall River, Massachusetts USA, and is a former professional baseball player, as well as a broadcaster and color commentator. He was most famous for being the second baseman for the California Angels, and later the Boston Red Sox. He is also widely recognized as NESN’s color commentator covering the games of his former team the Red Sox.
Have you ever wondered how much wealth this ex-athlete and nowadays broadcaster has accumulated so far? How rich Jerry Remy is? According to sources, it is estimated that the total of Jerry Remy’s net worth, as of early 2017, exceeds the sum of $15 million, primarily acquired through his professional baseball career which was active between 1971 and 1985, as well as through his on-camera TV broadcasting engagements.
Jerry attended what today is known as Somerset Berkley Regional High School and later enrolled at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. He began his professional baseball career in 1971, when he was drafted by the California Angels. After spending four seasons in their minor league teams, in 1975 Jerry was “promoted” to Major League Baseball in 1975. These ventures provided the basis for his current net worth.
Between 1975 and 1978, Jerry served as California Angels’ starting second baseman, after which he was traded to the Boston Red Sox. During his fist season with Red Sox in 1978, Remy was selected to the All-Star game in which, however, he didn’t play. He spent the next six seasons with the Red Sox, during which he had occasional pauses due to more and more frequent injuries. In May 1984, he suffered a severe knee injury and skipped the rest of the season. In December 1985 he was released from the team, and in early 1986 he announced his retirement from professional baseball. These almost 10 years spent in the world’s elite professional baseball league helped Jerry Remy to earn the majority of his, nowadays quite respectable, net worth.
In 1988, Jerry Remy joined the New England Sports Network (NESN) where he began serving as a color commentator for every NESN’s Red Sox broadcast. For his work and contribution to broadcasting and baseball as well, Remy has been honored with four prestigious Emmy Awards so far. Apart from broadcasting, in 2006 he was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame, while in 2007 Jerry was voted as the first president of Red Sox Nation, an official Boston Red Sox fan base and membership program, and ever since has served in that position. Doubtlessly, all these achievements helped Jerry Remy to further increase the total of his wealth.
In 2004, Sports Illustrated magazine proclaimed Jerry Remy as the best sports announcer in Massachusetts.
Remy is also successfully involved in the catering business – he owns a hot dog stand, RemDawg’s, as well as Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill in several locations throughout Massachusetts. Remy is also the owner of website The Remy Report, and so far has released over a dozen books too, including “Watching Baseball: Discovering the Game within the Game” as well as a series of five children’s books from the “Hello, Wally” series. It is certain that these additional ventures have helping Jerry Remy to increase the total of his revenues by a large margin.
When it comes to his personal life, Jerry Remy is married to Phoebe with whom he has three children.
