George Lopez Wiki Biography

George Lopez is a well-known American talk show host, radio personality, television producer, comedian, actor, as well as a voice actor. To the public, George Lopez is perhaps best known for creating a television sitcom called “George Lopez”, in which he is also one of its main stars. Together with Lopez, Constance Marie, Valente Rodriguez, Luis Armand Garcia and Aimee Garcia also appear in the main roles.

An award-winning show, “George Lopez” explored issues related to race and ethnicity, with a focus on a Mexican American culture. The show first aired on television screens in 2002 and was on air for six seasons until it was cancelled in 2007. The main reason for the cancellation of the show was that it was too costly for the ABC network to pick it up for another season. In addition to that, the show had to constantly compete for air time with other shows on the network.

When “George Lopez” was cancelled, Lopez went on to launch his own late-night television talk series called “Lopez Tonight”, which premiered in 2009 and became an instant hit, as its premiere received a larger viewership than such shows as “Late Show with David Letterman”, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and even “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”. However, the show that featured guest appearances from Conan O’Brien, Antoine Dodson, Janet Jackson, Donald Trump, Louis C.K. and Usher to name a few, did not stay on air for too long. It was cancelled in 2011 after two seasons and was never picked up afterwards.

A famous television talk show host, how rich is George Lopez? The sources state that Lopez’s annual salary amounts to $3.5 million, while George Lopez’s net worth is estimated to be a total of $25 million.

George Lopez was born in 1961, in Los Angeles, California, where he studied at San Fernando High School. Prior to becoming a television show host, Lopez used to host a radio show that aired in his hometown. At the time, Lopez was the very first host of Mexican descent on the show. A year later, Lopez moved on from radio to appear on television screens. After he was contacted by Sandra Bullock, who presented him with the idea for the show, in 2002 Lopez debuted with his own series under the name of “George Lopez”.

Even though Lopez is best known as the main star of his own series, as well as the “Lopez Tonight” talk show, he has also been taking part in other television projects. In 2007, Lopez presented an award-winning documentary about his life and career as a Latino in the media called “Brown is the New Green: George Lopez and the American Dream”. George Lopez also starred in “Real Women Have Curves” film with America Ferrera, a critically acclaimed drama “Bread and Roses”, directed by Ken Loach, “The Spy Next Door” starring Billy Ray Cyrus, Amber Valletta and Jackie Chan, and, more recently, a film with James Kirk called “Naughty or Nice”.

A well-known television personality, George Lopez has an estimated net worth of $25 million.

George Lopez Quotes

  • I’ll fuck that motherfucker up. [2015 – on his ongoing feud with CHiPs star, Erik Estrada]
  • [After getting arrested on February 27, 2014, for getting drunk and falling asleep on the floor of the Ceasars Windsor casino in Ontario, Canada] Tied one on last night. Not feeling great this morning. I was trying to sleep it off; unfortunately, it was on the casino floor.

George Lopez Important Facts

  • In 2010, Mexican radio show personality, La Vozalona (Marlene Quinto), as part of the Mexican radio show, “El Show de Don Cheto”, said that she had met George Lopez at a Cuban restaurant in which she was eating with a friend and when she saw that he had finished eating and seemed on his way out, she approached him near the exit of the restaurant while he was taking a picture with a fan and told him that she wanted a picture with him, to which she said he became very rude and disrespectful and told her she had to wait and that “even Mexicans have manners and say please”. Confused, La Vozalona said she told Lopez she was a big fan and one of his many followers on Twitter, to which she said that he told her to shut up and take the picture already. La Vozalona said she told Lopez to stop being rude, because she could “burn” him and that he responded, “What, you think I care?”. This was very surprising for many and many considered Lopez a big hypocrite for the incident, considering he’s been criticizing and ridiculing Erik Estrada for many years for not shaking his hand and refusing to sign an autograph when Lopez was 17, while Estrada filmed an episode of CHiPs near Lopez’s neighborhood.
  • Has had an ongoing feud for years with CHiPs (1977) star, Erik Estrada, because Estrada wouldn’t sign an autograph nor shake his hand when Lopez was a kid while Estrada was filming an episode of CHiPs near Lopez’s neighborhood. Since then, Lopez vowed to make Estrada pay. In 2011, Estrada told a Miami radio show, The Enrique Santos Show, that he didn’t remember ignoring Lopez, but that he was tired of Lopez thrashing his name and that he had seen Lopez at a church event and challenged him to a fight and that Lopez backed down, stating, “I’m a comedian, not a fighter”. In 2015, with regards to Estrada, Lopez told the Huffington Post during an interview, “I’ll fuck that motherfucker up.”.
  • On February 27, 2014, George Lopez was arrested for public intoxication after getting drunk and falling asleep on the floor of the Ceasars Windsor casino in Ontario, Canada. The casino’s security alerted law enforcement upon finding him sleeping on the casino floor. Lopez had performed at the casino earlier that day in the evening. He had another show the following day, which the casino duly canceled. Soon after, a photograph of a drunken and passed out asleep Lopez was quickly circulated around the web.
  • In May of 2010, the National Enquirer ran a story on George Lopez having cheated on his wife with prostitutes. A professional escort, who uses the name Tiffany, told the Enquirer that in 2009 Lopez had gotten her number from a website she uses to advertise her services and that he called her to arrange a meeting at his hotel room. Tiffany said Lopez paid her $500 to have sex with him. She also said that Lopez told her he liked to use the same hookers regularly ‘that way, I always know what I’m going to get’. Tiffany went on to add that she later found out he had hired a fellow hooker, by the name of Samantha, the same day he had seen her. The prostitute passed a polygraph lie detector test she took after making these claims. When asked to comment on having had sex with Tiffany and Samantha, Lopez denied ever having met with them. The news of George Lopez cheating on his wife with prostitutes came as a shock, because his wife had saved his life by donating a kidney to him in 2005, after Lopez nearly died in 2004 from kidney failure.
  • Auditioned for a role in Blood In, Blood Out (1993).
  • His late-night talk show, Lopez Tonight (2009), abruptly ended on August 12, 2011, prior to the start of his 3rd season.

  • 25 April 2005: Had a successful kidney transplant surgery using an organ donated by his wife, Ann Serrano Lopez.
  • One of the many witnesses in the Michael Jackson trial.
  • George Lopez, his character on George Lopez (2002), was ranked #18 in TV Guide’s list of the “50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time” [20 June 2004 issue].
  • His 2003 live comedy album, “Team Leader”, was nominated for the “Best Comedy Album” Grammy in 2004, up against albums by Garrison Keillor, ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic, Margaret Cho and David Cross.
  • In October 2003, he became one of the few comedians to be able to sell-out Los Angeles’ historic Universal Amphitheater for three straight nights (Oct. 10-12)
  • Sandra Bullock gave George his break into TV stardom with her own production company when she sent out a scout to check the clubs for Latino talent because there were no Hispanic shows on TV.
  • Hosted the Seventh Annual Florida Sports Awards from Jacksonville’s Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts. [June 2002]
  • Stand up comedian.
