George Clinton Wiki Biography
George Clinton is a Kannapolis, North Carolina-born American R&B singer/song writer, band leader and producer best known for fronting his band P-Funk. Born on July 22, 1941 George is of Afro-American origin, and has so far enjoyed a career spanning more than 40 years.
Regarded as the pioneers of funk music, how rich is George Clinton? George currently has an estimated net worth of $1.8 million, the major part of his wealth contributed by his prolific career in the music industry. His band P-Funk dominated the ’70s with more than 40 R&B hit singles and three platinum albums which not only helped him gain recognition but also added considerably to his net worth.
George grew up in New Jersey where he started his career in his teenage years. Initially, he worked at a barber shop in New Jersey, where he also created a group called “The Parliaments” which later became known as “Funkadelic” and later yet as “P-Funk”. His first solo album “Computer Games” was a success which charted in third position in the US R&B list in 1982. Though he had a successful start, his success didn’t last long as his popularity started to decline in the ’90s. It was the rappers like Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur who began sampling his work and helped him re-emerge in the music industry. After re-uniting with members of P-Funk in 1996, he came up with “T.A.P.O.A.F.O.M.”, which became a market success.
Considered as one of the foremost innovators of funk music, along with James Brown and Sly Stone, his band has been named 56th greatest rock ‘a’ roll artists of all time by Rolling Stone magazine. He has also been rewarded with an honorary doctorate by Berklee College of Music. He appeared on the intro to Snoop Dogg’s “Tha Blue Carpet Treatment” album. He was also a judge for the fifth annual Independent Music Awards, and also has appeared in 2004 video game, GTA San Andreas as the voice of The Functipus.
George became a founder member of record label named as “The C Conspyruhzy” which has also served as one of his sources of wealth. He has been a part of many other ventures including his short but memorable cameo in popular CBS television series, “How I Met Your Mother”. Apart from this, George has also been on several concert tours and has given many memorable performances in major events.
Regarding his personal life, George married Stephanie Lynn in 1990, but in 2013 he filed for divorce after 22 years of marriage. His son, George Clinton Jr, has already died a natural death. As of now, George is single.
With a net worth of $1.8 million, the pioneer of funk music, George Clinton still has an influential presence in the music industry. He continues to tour the world giving performances to his fans and admirers around the globe. He along with his band P-Funk All Stars have still been holding onto their domination in music that showed in the 70s, with their top-notch musicianship and outlandish concept albums. Although at some point George struggled financially, he has resurfaced to gain a current net worth of $18 million.

George Clinton Trademarks
- He often wears outlandish, multi-colored clothes in concerts, frequently accompanied by platform shoes and rainbow streamers in his long hair.
George Clinton Important Facts
- One of the personalities mentioned in the song Genius of Love by Tom Tom Club. The others mentioned were James Brown, Bob Marley, Smokey Robinson, ‘Hamilton Bohannon’, Bootsy Collins, Kurtis Blow and Lowell ‘Sly’ Dunbar (as Sly and Robbie) and Robbie Shakespeare (as Sly and Robbie).
- Parliament/Funkadelic were voted the 56th Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Artists of all time by Rolling Stone.
- More people are familiar with the more dance-oriented music of his younger group, Parliament. However the older Funkadelic (who recorded as far back as 1969) was a much grittier heavy funk group that experimented heavily with hard rock, particularly on the album “Maggot Brain.” In more recent times, though, his two groups have been combined into one, so it is difficult to distinguish the musical styles.
- Before he went into music, he worked as a hairdresser.
- His best known band member is almost certainly Bootsy Collins, although his #1 protégé earlier on was Eddie Hazel, a young guitarist with so much skill that some say he was an equal to Jimi Hendrix. Unfortunately, like Hendrix, Hazel died young and never gained the recognition that many believe he deserved.
- Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 (as a member of Parliament-Funkadelic).
