Fred Funk Wiki Biography

Frederick Funk was born on 14 June 1956, in Takoma Park, Maryland USA, and is a professional golf player, known for playing on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour of Champions. He’s won 29 professional tournaments in the course of his career, which include eight PGA Tour wins and nine PGA Tour Champions tournaments, but all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Frederick Funk? As of mid-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $14 million, mostly earned through success in professional golf since turning professional in 1981. As he continues his career, it is expected that this wealth will also continue to increase.

Growing up, Fred tried numerous sports and even pursued boxing for eight years. He attended High Point High School and during his time there, played on the golf team. After matriculating, he attended the University of Maryland, College Park but was cut from the golf team, so moved to Prince George’s Community College, but after two years, would return to the University of Maryland. He graduated in 1980 with a degree in law enforcement, but became a professional golfer the following year.

In 1982, Fred started playing in PGA Tour events but found little success, and didn’t officially become a member of the tour until seven years later. He struggled with consistency and missed the cut in nearly half the tournaments he played. However, he did get some big successes including a Buick Open fifth place finish and Chattanooga Classic T-3 which increased his net worth. In 1991, he increased his success with top 10 finishes in five tournaments, and finally got his breakthrough in 1992 when he had his first PGA Tour win at the Shell Houston Open. Three years later, he followed it up with his second PGA Tour tournament win at the 1995 Ideon Classic, and won the Buick Challenge two months after that. In 2003, he became part of the Presidents Cup team, and the following year was selected for the Ryder Cup. He returned to the Presidents Cup in 2005 and would then score his biggest PGA Tour win at The Players Championship; he became the oldest winner of the championship at 48 years old.

In 2006, Funk made his debut in the Champions Tour at the US Senior Open. The following year, he won at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun, becoming the second player to win on the PGA Tour at over-50 years old, the first to win a PGA Tour event held in Mexico, and only four older players have become winners in PGA Tour history. In 2008, he then won his first senior major at the JELD-WEN Tradition. The following year, he had to undergo total knee replacement, but still became the oldest qualifier for the US Open. In 2009, he won his second Champions Tour major at the US Senior Open, and followed it up with another major victory the following year at the JELD-WEN Tradition, the first player to win a PGA Tour sanctioned event after knee replacement surgery. He still continues to play and his net worth has increased continuously because of it.

Fred is also known to endorse numerous products including golf clubs, golf balls, and greens.

For his personal life, it is known that Funk married Sharon Archer in 1994 and they have two children. He also has a son from a previous marriage which ended in 1992.
