Frank Theodore Levine Wiki Biography

Frank Theodore Levine was born on the 29th May 1957 in Parma, Ohio, USA of Russian-Jewish (father) and Welsh (mother) ancestry, and is an actor especially known for playing the role of the Buffalo Bill, the serial killer in the film “Silence of the Lambs” (1991), and more recently portraying the character of Captain Leland Stottlemeyer in the series “Monk” (2002 – 2009). Levine has been active in the entertainment industry since the early 1980s.

How much is the net worth of Ted Levine? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the outright size of his wealth is as much as $4 million, as of the data given at the beginning of 2017. Films and television are the main sources of Levine’s net worth and popularity.

To begin with, Levine was raised in Parma, but his family changed their living place several times and he attended primary school in Bellaire and later the alternative Marlboro College in Vermont. He started his acting career at the beginning of the 1980s, at first working in theatres in Vermont, Michigan and Chicago, where he was also able to study and earn a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University Chicago. He is now mainly working in films and television.

In the 1980s, he initially worked in, among other projects, the series “Crime Story” in which he created the role of Frank Hollman. However, he reached worldwide attention only in 1991 as the serial killer Jame “Buffalo Bill” Gumb in the thriller film “The Silence of the Lambs” directed by Jonathan Demme. Among others, the film won five Academy Awards as well as grossing $272.7 million at the box office worldwide. Despite the success, Levine did not want to be type-cast, and eventually got to play a variety of roles in the following years, and chose less abyssal characters: military, police or family men. In 1998, he met with Patrick Stewart in the two-part television adaptation of Melville’s “Moby Dick”. Yet, he still voiced the sociopathic trucker Rusty Nail in the movie “Joy Ride” (2001), and was the detective Sam Nico in the movie “Wonderland – Massacre in Hollywood” (2003), focusing on grisly murders in a district of Los Angeles. From 2002 to 2009, he took over at the side of Tony Shalhoub in the series “Monk”, creating the role of Captain Leland Stottlemeyer. Other works of the actor have included roles in the film “The Assassination of Jesse James” (2007) with Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck, and “Shutter Island” (2010) directed by Martin Scorsese. From 2013 to 2014, he landed the main role in the television series “The Bridge” broadcast on FX network. Recently, Ted was cast as the main in the war fantasy-drama film “Little Boy” (2015) directed by Alejandro Gómez Monteverde, and in the biographical boxing film “Bleed for This” (2016) written and directed by Ben Younger.

To summarise, all the above mentioned roles have added significant sums to the total size of Ted Levine’s net worth.

Finally, in the personal life of the actor, Ted Levine is married to Kim and they have two children.

Frank Theodore Levine Quotes

  • I don’t live in Los Angeles; I might have to in order to be near it. I love the Midwest. LA is like a porno without the sex. It has about that much allure for me. Is this film going to make me or break me? The typecasting thing is very frustrating. I do get cast as bad guys, and I’m not. I love my children, I’m a good father, I’ve got a pretty strong sense of right and wrong. That’s probably the hardest thing in doing the roles that I do, that’s really rough.
  • When I read [The Bridge] and saw the source material, it was just smart. I think that’s what drew me to this. I guess that’s how I end up in this milieu. Plus I’m on the other side of it, and it took me a number of years to get on the other side. I’m immensely grateful that I am. … It’s really pretty cool that people see me from other things now and they aren’t saying, ‘Hey, say that line you said in the thing.’ That baggage isn’t as heavy anymore. -on playing a good guy in The Bridge (2013)
  • Generally you have a month of rehearsals and a couple months of productions. You know that, so you have a nice framework. That’s one of the beauties of it. Your balls are on the line. There’s no slacking off. It comes down to the wire, and you’re up there. You’re going to do the whole thing in a number of hours, so prepare for it, relax and stretch, and then you do it. It’s a very physical thing as well. You’ve got to be bigger on the stage. You have to be heard for one thing, which is something I’ve always had trouble with. It’s one of the reasons I like film, because I can mumble. I’ve always felt my person is more effective on film than onstage. I’m just not a real extroverted person. Not that film is easier, it’s just an easier place for me to be. -on theater acting vs acting on film
  • It was hard. I’ll never do a character like this again. I would have loved to just have done the part from the script, and not deal with the book, it would be so much easier to work that way, and there are so many images in the book that aren’t in the film. On the one hand they can be useful to you, on the other hand you can end up working too hard, which is something I think I did. I drove myself nuts with this character. I lived with this son of a bitch. Something that is very consistent with serial killers is they look at a lot of pornography, and I did that too. That will make you fucking crazy. -on his character in The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
  • I scared them to death in the audition. I had no idea what I was going to do. I read the script; I read the book; I tried stuff. I met Jonathan [Jonathan Demme] in Los Angeles, and we just talked, and I got a sense where he was at about it. He called me back; I went to New York to talk some more, and I just read. I sort of copped something on the way, which is something you have to do, whether it’s right or wrong. Actually I think my audition was better than my performance, by far. -on how he got the part of Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
