Frank Anthony Iommi Wiki Biography
Frank Anthony Iommi was born on 19th February 1948, in Birmingham, England, and is a guitarist, certainly best known as one of the founding members of the pioneer heavy metal band Black Sabbath, so Iommi is widely recognized as one of the most influential guitarists of the heavy metal genre. Tony has been active in the entertainment industry since 1960.
How much is the net worth of Tony Iommi? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the overall size of his wealth is over $140 million, as of the data presented in the middle of 2016. Music is the main source of Iommi’s fortune.
To begin with, Iommi started playing the guitar in his adolescence; he was initially inspired by the group Hank Marvin & The Shadows. In 1967, Iommi formed a group called Earth with bassist Terry Butler, drummer Bill Ward and singer John Osbourne. Tony’s career as a guitarist was about to end prematurely when he suffered an accident in a factory and lost parts of two fingers, so thought he could never play guitar again. However, he continued playing.
As another band in England had the same name, Earth, Iommi and his friends were forced to change their band’s name, thus taking the name Black Sabbath. With this change, they decided to change the musical direction as well. The band decided to explore relatively dark lyrical subjects, with stronger music. Sabbath created the foundations for heavy metal and their albums “Black Sabbath” (1970), “Paranoid” (1970) and “Master of Reality” (1971) as well as several following albums reached the top of the heavy rock charts. Iommi played the base guitar in songs like “Black Sabbath”, “War Pigs”, “NIB”, “Paranoid”, “Children of the Grave”, “Iron Man” as well as “Into the Void” and which became the most recognized riffs in rock history. However, the constant consumption of drugs left the band without Osbourne in 1979. Tony’s net worth was well established.
After keeping alive Black Sabbath, the band released album “Mob Rules” with Ronnie James Dio, who restored the commercial success of the band. Yet, Iommi shifted the focus to Europe and recorded several albums with Tony Martin and toured in Russia and Europe. In 1992, alongside several prominent artists he participated in the tribute concert for Freddie Mercury, the late lead singer of Queen.
It is worth mentioning the fact that Sabbath organized very successful tours in the late 1990s, garnering new fans who had been too young to have known the band in its heyday in the 1970s. A Grammy Award persuaded them to continue the reunion tour when the song “Iron Man” won in the category of the Best Metal Performance in 1999.
The first solo, self-titled album of Tony Iommi appeared in 2000; the work of 10 songs was well received by the press and the public. Iommi also hosted his radio show “Black Sunday” (2003 – 2006) on station Planet Rock in the UK, and wrote an autobiographical book – “Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath”. In 2011, with other legendary artists Ian Gillan and Jon Lord, he formed a band whose aim was to raise money for charitable work in Armenia. The band was called Who Cares, and released a single CD. In 2012, Iommi was diagnosed with a lymphoma that was in its early stages. In 2013, a tour with Black Sabbath began, with Geezer Butler and Ozzy Osbourne. The same year the guitarist received an honorary doctorate of Arts of the University of Coventry, for his contribution to popular music.
Finally, in the personal life of the musician, he married Maria Sjoholm in 2005; they have one child.

Frank Anthony Iommi Quotes
- Here’s what led to Ozzy being kicked out of Black Sabbath. By the time we were about to let him go, we didn’t know how to go about doing so, and I was still unsure about making the decision, but Geezer and Bill came up to me and said, Either Ozzy goes, or we go. And you know Bill, he’s like the businessman of the band, he’s got the haircut, the suit, and the briefcase, and he fucking goes and tells Ozzy, Tony doesn’t want to work with you anymore. So to this day, Ozzy still thinks that I fired him on my own, when actually the other two were the ones who wanted him out. But I wasn’t very pleased with him either.
- I was with Jethro Tull for two weeks. So what?
- [on how he created the heavy music for Black Sabbath] “Well, to be honest, we just became so fed up with people talking while we were playing that we said, ‘Screw it, let’s turn it up, so they won’t be able to chatter.’ The band just kept getting louder and louder.”
