William Jonathan Drayton Jr., to audiences known by the stage name of Flavor Flav, is a famous American rap artist, musician, television personality, actor, as well as a voice actor. To the public Flavor Flav is perhaps best known as member of a popular hip hop group called “Public Enemy”. The group, which consists of Chuck D, Flav, DJ Lord, Professor Griff, The S1W and Khari Wynn, was founded in New York, in 1982. “Public Enemy” received their mainstream success when they debuted with their first studio album called “Yo! Bum Rush the Show”, which spawned two singles and peaked at #125 on the Billboard Top LPs chart. Critically acclaimed, the album is considered to be among the 100 Best Rap Albums and was even featured in a list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, compiled by the Rolling Stones magazine.
“Public Enemy” followed the success of their debut album with “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back”, which peaked at #42 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 42 weeks. The album did even better than its predecessor and with five singles produced, is considered to be one of the greatest albums of all time. “Public Enemy” has released twelve studio albums to date, many of which were nominated for Grammy, as well as American Music Awards.

Flavor Flav was born in 1959, in Roosevelt, New York. Flavor Flav’s interest in music stems from his early childhood, when he joined a youth choir and learned how to play 15 instruments, including drums, guitar and piano. Flavor Flav never graduated from high school but instead took culinary classes, and as a result worked in various restaurants. Flavor met his future group member Chuck D at Adelphi University, with whom he began rapping. Flav and Chuck D’s collaborations soon evolved into the creation of one of the most influential hip hop groups at the time called “Public Enemy”. It was with “Public Enemy” that Flavor Flav grew to be a well-known face in the music industry.
Aside from “Public Enemy”, Flavor Flav made various television appearances and was featured in such shows as “The Surreal Life”, “Comedy Central” and his own series “Flavor of Love”. The show debuted in 2006 and was on air for three seasons until 2008. At the time it had the second highest-rating on VH1 and even resulted in the creation of three spin-off series, namely “I Love New York”, “Charm School” and “I Love Money”.
