Ernest Evans Wiki Biography
Ernest Evans was born on the 3rd October 1941, in Spring Gully, South Carolina USA, and is a singer of rock’ n’ roll. He is famous mainly for having been the figurehead of the twist in 1960 – 1962, which he popularized as a dance and musical style and which earned him at the time the nickname Mr. Twist. Checker has been active in the entertainment industry since 1959.
How much is the net worth of Chubby Checker? It has been reported by authoritative sources that the overall size of his wealth is as much as $4 million, as of the data presented in the middle of 2016. Music is the main source of Checker’s net worth.
To begin with, he grew up in Philadelphia with his parents and two brothers. From an early age he learned to play the piano, then the drums, and imitated various singers. He was educated at South Philadelphia High School.
Concerning his professional career, Chubby founded his first music band at the age of eleven; he was discovered on the market when he sold chickens and casually sang his songs. In 1959, he signed a record deal with the label Cameo-Parkway and got the stage name Chubby Checker (chubby = plump). His first single “The Class” (1959) was a minor hit, but later he converted the B-side of a single by Hank Ballard & the Midnighters entitled “The Twist”, and the song became a big hit in 1960. Subsequently, his recording rose to number one and stayed there for three months in the charts. The following year, Checker continued his winning streak with “Pony Time” (1961) (written by Don Covay and John Berry) and “Let’s Twist Again” (1961). “Slow Twistin’” (1962), “Limbo Rock” (1962) and “Popeye the Hitchhiker” (1992) also made him one of the most successful artists in 1962, and significantly boosted his net worth.
Until 1966, he had placed more than 30 titles in the charts, but then it went downhill. With the start of the Beatles era his merry dance music was no longer in demand, and even a half-hearted style change into folkie tones brought no improvement. After engagements in smaller nightclubs he was put back under contract by the MCA in 1982, and brought out the moderately successful LP “The Change Has Come out”. His biggest hit “The Twist” scored international success in a revision by the Fat Boys in the late 1980s. Chubby even toured the pubs and sports halls of the USA.
At the end of the 1990s, he founded his own company, which sold snack items such as candy bars, popcorn, steaks and hot dogs. In 2007, he was presented after a long time in the charts when he reached number one on the dance sales charts in the USA with the hit “Knock Down the Walls”. To conclude, all the above mentioned singles and albums have increased the total size of Chubby Checker’s net worth.
Finally, in the personal life of the musician, Checker has been married to Catharina Lodders – 1962’s Miss World – since 1964. They have three children and live in Philadelphia.
