In 2005, Reutimann celebrated his first victory in the Craftsman Truck Series at the Toyota Tundra 200 at the Nashville Superspeedway, and finished the season 13th in the overall rating. In 2006, David delivered consistently good results, and in the overall ranking he finished 3rd. In the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup season, David Reutimann qualified for 26 of the 36 races, and was replaced by P. J. Jones in the two street course races due to lack of experience. His best finish was 13th place at the Chevy Rock and Roll 400 at the Richmond International Raceway.

In the Busch Series, David Reutimann performed well in the 2007 season. He won the Sam’s Town 250 at the Memphis Motorsports Park, leading in 194 of the 250 laps. In the 2008 season, Reutimann achieved successes, in the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at the Richmond International Raceway, he led for more than 100 laps, but only came in 9th. In the overall rating, he was ranked 22nd. At the beginning of the 2009 season Reutimann got more competitive cars. In May he won his first Sprint Cup race at the Coca-Cola 600 on the Lowe’s Motor Speedway. On June 20, 2010, he won the LifeLock.com 400 on the Chicagoland Speedway.
