Eddie George Wiki Biography
Edward Nathan George Jr. was born on 24 September 1973, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA. He is a former American Football player, a famous running back in the National Football League (NFL) who started his career in college and successfully turned out to be a professional football player. In addition to this, he is an actor, an analyst, and a landscape architect.
A former running back, how rich is Eddie George? As reported by sources, he has acquired a net worth of over $200,000, as of early 2016. His wealth has been accumulated during his career as a professional football player as well as by his various television works. He purchased a 8,550-square-foot home in Brentwood, Tennessee for $1.675 million.
George attended Abington Senior High School and later transferred to the Fork Union Military Academy. He excelled in sports, and his athletic abilities attracted a number of colleges. The player decided to attend Ohio State University, where he majored in landscape design, and joined the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, playing the position of running back. He was considered as one of the most valuable players of the team and in 1995 won the Heisman Trophy. In 2011, it was announced that he would become an inductee to the College Football Hall of Fame.
In 1996 George entered the NF, being chosen by the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) as a 14th overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft. He won the NFL Rookie of the Year award the same year, and appeared in the Pro Bowl for four years in a row (1997-2000), plus leading the AFC Champion Titans to Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000. Along with Jim Brown, he became the second NFL running back to rush for 10,000 yards, without ever missing a start. However, multiple injuries and a heavy workload began to cause the player’s productivity to gradually decline. Due to him being unable to keep up the pace, and also due to the salary cap, the team released him in 2004. His eight seasons with the Titans accumulated a great part of his net worth.
George signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys the same year. However, he appeared as a starter in only eight games with the Cowboys, and announced his retirement the following year. He finished his football career with 10,441 rushing yards, 268 receptions, 2,227 receiving yards, and 78 touchdowns.
Since retiring from football in 2005, George went on to extensive television work, and found his second career. In addition to hosting and being a studio football analyst, he started taking lessons in acting and quickly became a Broadway star, and making an appearance in movies such as Steven Seagal’s “Into the Sun” and Dwayne Johnson’s “The Game Plan”, as well as appearances in television shows such as “Nash Bridges”, “American Team Builders” and “Coach”. Along with his wife, George appeared in the reality shows “I Married a Baller” and “Survivor: Tocantins”. In 2012 he played the title role in “Julius Caesar” and in 2014 in “Othello”, again with the title role. He has hosted the video-game shows “Training Camp” and “Quad”. In 2015 it was announced that George would play the role of lawyer Billy Flynn in the musical “Chicago”, starting in the early 2016. His television work has added a considerable amount to George’s wealth.
The retired football player now owns restaurants in Nashville, Tennessee and Columbus, Ohio, and has also become the principal of the landscape architecture company The Edge Group. He has broadened his work as a philanthropist too. Aside from donating to various charities, he has founded a non-profit organization called Visions with Infinite Possibilities and his latest endeavor has been his fitness products company called EGX Lifestyle.
In hios personal life, George has been married to Tamara Johnson-George, an actress and a member of the R&B musical trio called Sisters with Voices, since 2004, and the couple has a son. George also has a son from a previous relationship.
