Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” Wiki Biography

Dwayne Douglas Johnson was born on 2 May 1972, in Hayward, California USA, of Canadian, Black Nova Scotian and Samoan descent. Dwayne is an actor and professional wrestler – considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, known for his work with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) by his ring name “The Rock”. However, he’s perhaps better known for appearing in numerous films, such as “The Fast and the Furious” franchise. He’s been active in the industry since 1996, but all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Dwayne Johnson? As of late-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $125 million, earned largely through success in acting and wrestling. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

Dwayne attended President William McKinley High School and later Freedom High School, during which time he played football for the school team and was also a member of the wrestling team.

After matriculating, he accepted a full scholarship from the University of Miami, playing as a defensive tackle for The Hurricanes school football team, including for the 1991 national championship team. However, he graduated with a degree in criminology and physiology, following which in 1995 he joined the Canadian Football League, but was cut after two months.

Johnson then transitioned his focus to professional wrestling, as he came from a family which consisted of many professional wrestlers. After training with his father, he then tried out for World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1996, starting wrestling in the independent scene, and making his debut in 1996 as Rocky Maivia. His first match was a part of “Survivor Series” in an eight man elimination tag match. He was initially rejected by fans, but would win the Intercontinental Championship. The following year, he returned from injury and joined the stable called the “Nation of Domination”, which started the birth of “The Rock” persona. He had several successful feuds during this time, and would turn face the following year, becoming “The People’s Champion”, and then allied with Vince McMahon as part of the stable, “The Corporation”. His success began during the late 1990s up to the 2000s, in which period he started breaking records, and also won the WWE Championship. Eventually, he would take his first film opportunity in “The Scorpion King”, which would lead him to start transitioning to a film career, eventually completing his run with WWE in 2004.

Since transitioning to films, Dwayne has appeared in numerous popular films, including “Walking Tall”, “Gridiron Gang”, and “Race to Witch Mountain”. In 2011, he appeared as a part of “Fast Five”, then become a regular member of the “Fast and Furious” film series. Other popular films he’s been a part of include “GI Joe: Retaliation”, “Hercules”, and the animated film “Moana”. A few of his recent film projects include “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”, and the planned DC Comics based film “Shazam”. He also continues to work as a part of WWE, and makes sporadic appearances on WWE television, so continuing to build his net worth.

For his personal life, it is known that Johnson married Dany Garcia in 2001 and they have a daughter, but eventually divorced in 2007. He then started dating Lauren Hashian, and they have two children.

Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” Quotes

  • It’s nice to be important but more important to be nice. I heard that from a friend when I was about 15, and I’ve never forgotten it.
  • No matter who you are, being kind is the easiest thing you can do.
  • [on playing Hercules in Brett Ratner’s adaptation of Hercules (2014)] Understand, for me when I was a kid, Hercules was always a hero of mine, from Steve Reeves to the multiple guys who have played Hercules, but the idea and the notion of this man. When I first got into movies, I thought, “Gosh, I would love to do that one day.”. I always thought that the version of Hercules that I want to play was one that was more dramatic and survived in barren lands and not necessarily slick in any way or anything like that. It’s been around and been on my mind for some time.
  • A huge percentage of football players at Division I-A schools – especially those that are typically ranked in the top 25 – do not make the active roster as freshmen.
  • [about his wrestling career] I am amazed at the number of people who think I only work on the days and nights they see me on television.
  • To a degree, all of my promos are scripted, in that there are certain lines and phrases that I plan to include.
  • I have so much love and respect for the fans. I’ll never forget where I came from. I love the business. I grew up in the business. And everyone always asks me, from Letterman [David Letterman] to Stone Phillips, what I miss about wrestling. Hands down, I miss the interaction with the fans. Outside of the ring I loved it, too. I mean, how hard is it to sign an autograph? Don’t be an a**hole to your fans. And there’s many [in WWE] that won’t, which is bulls**t. But inside the ring, just that energy and feeding off that energy is great. There’s something so special about it. And every night I would just have a blueprint of what I would say and rely so much on ad-libbing and waiting to see what happens when I get out there and let it materialize organically and see what happens. Every night was a different crowd and they gave me so much energy, and I’ll always love that and always miss that for sure. [Interview with WWE.com in October 2005]
  • It doesn’t matter what you think.
  • The Rock will take you down Know Your Role Boulevard which is on the corner of Jabroni Drive and check you directly into the Smackdown Hotel!
  • Can you smell what The Rock is cooking!
  • [Referring to his 0.7 grade point average in college] It’s pretty hard to get a point seven. You have to do close to nothing.
  • Who in the blue hell are you?
  • You will go one on one with the Great One!
  • Finally…The Rock…has come back to [whatever city he’s in at the time]
