Doug Clifford Wiki Biography
Douglas “Cosmo” Clifford was born on 24 April 1945, in Palo Alto, California USA, and is a drummer, best known for being a founding member of the band Creedence Clearwater Revival. He has also released a solo album, and been a member of the Don Harrison Band. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Doug Clifford? As of mid-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $40 million, mostly earned through a successful career in the music industry. He’s worked with other artists such as Mark Spoelstra, Tom Fogerty, The Smithereens, and Steve Miller. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.
Doug started to increase his popularity and net worth after forming Creedence Clearwater Revival in the 1960s; they started in the San Francisco Bay Area and focused on a lot of Southern rock with songs about popular elements of the Southern United States. They mixed various rock styles including roots rock, swamp rock, and blues rock, but they also did political and socially conscious songs, including singing about the Vietnam War. From the late 1960s to the early 1970s, they achieved chart-topping success, however, they disbanded in 1972. Tom Fogerty left the previous year and his brother John had problems with artistic control as well as business matters.
Disagreements with the owner of their label Fantasy Records created protracted court battles. Despite that, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s music is still regularly played over the radio. The band sold 26 million albums in the US alone, and they are considered one of the greatest artistic groups of all time by Rolling Stone.
After the group dissolved, Clifford then worked on a solo album entitled “Cosmo” which was released in 1972. According to an interview, he decided to make a solo album to see what it was like, since group members still had individual contracts. He also thought that it was a terrible album, despite having good musicians, since he was not a singer. Afterwards, he joined bassist Stu Cook in the Don Harrison Band, which merged elements of rock, country, folk, and R&B which had a sound reminiscent of Creedence Clearwater Revival. They released two albums from 1976 to 1977 including “The Don Harrison Band” and “Red Hot”.
Doug then started working with other artists for various solo projects and albums. In 1995, he formed the band Creedence Clearwater Revisited which started performing live versions of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s songs. They released the live album “Recollection” which was certified platinum despite failing to chart highly. All of these efforts helped his net worth increase further.
One of his latest projects is the release of “Billy C. and the Sunshine/The Lost 70’s Tapes” which contains his recording from the 1970s.
For his personal life, it is known that Doug married Laurie in 1968, but they divorced, and he is believed to be single. One of Clifford’s early influence was The Beatles – he saw them on “The Ed Sullivan Show”. Creedence Clearwater Revival was relatively unknown during that time and they were inspired by the English band, so went out, bought Beatle wigs and started to perform.
