Doris Roberts was a St. Louis, Missouri-born American actress who is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Marie Barone in the TV sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond”. Born on 4 November 1925, Doris was of Russian-Jewish descent.

Later, she married famous novelist William Goyen in 1963 and lived with him until his death in 1983. She was mother to her only son Michael Cannata Jr. who she shared with her first husband.
