Don Lemon Wiki Biography
Donald Davis Don Lemon was born on the 1 Mar 1966, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana USA, of mixed Creole, Nigerian, Cameroonian and Congolese ancestry. He is a journalist and television news anchor, perhaps best known as the host of the show called “CNN Tonight with Don Lemon”, which has probably had the biggest impact on his total net worth during his career which began in the late 1980s.
So, just how rich is Don Lemon? Well, as of 2017, the journalist’s net worth is estimated by sources to be over $5 million, the larger part of his wealth having come from his television and show appearances; his current annual salary is around $128,000 per year. In 2014, he bought 859-square-foot apartment, with one bedroom and a large terrace in Harlem for almost $900,000; he also owns the neighboring unit.
Don spent his childhood in Louisiana, where he finished primary and secondary school. He later went to Brooklyn College, from where he graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism, also working as a news assistant at WNYW in New York City. After that, he attended Louisiana State University for his additional studies. (Don Lemon said he was inspired by Max Robinson, the first black news anchor from 1978 to 1984 on American TV.) He worked in numerous places as a reporter, and he has never been fired, so is known as hard-working and reliable, plus he has received a variety of awards for reports on Hurricane Katrina and the AIDS epidemic in Africa. He also received an Emmy award for his extraordinary reporting on the real estate market. Of course his net worth has benefited accordingly.
Don Lemon has also been presented in a variety of the trendy magazines in America. In 2009, Ebony magazine selected Lemon as one of the 150 most influential African Americans. The most notable events he has covered are the Boston Marathon Bombing and Philadelphia building fall down. Furthermore, he has reported on numerous natural catastrophes such as tsunamis and earthquakes in Japan. He is known for criticizing the situation of cable news, and openly questioning the network.
Concerning his personal life, not much is known, as he is a very reserved person and hardly ever talks about his private affairs. He grew up with his two older sisters, and his parents were not married. He has no children. There were reports that Don Lemon was married to Stephanie Ortiz, but his boyfriend is a colleague producer who as well works in television, so yes, Don is gay. There is no information about relationships that he had before. He published a book called “Transparent” in which he openly outed himself as gay, and he also talked about colorism in the black community, homophobia and the sexual abuse he experienced as a child. He has also expressed strong opinions about how the African-American community can be better, which has caused some debate, and there was even an unsuccessful petition to remove him from CNN because of this supposed controversy. More exhaustive information about him can be found on social networking websites such as Facebook and Tweeter. He also has a personal blog.
