DJ Laz Wiki Biography
Lazaro Mendez was born on 2 December 1971, in Hollywood, Florida, USA, and is a Cuban-American rapper and DJ, best known by his stage name DJ Laz for hosting the Miami radio show “The DJ Laz Morning Show”, as well as for his singles “Journey Into Bass” and “Move Shake Drop”.
So just how rich is DJ Laz at present? According to sources, DJ Laz has earned a net worth over $2 million, as of early 2017, accumulated through his involvement in music industry which began in the late 1980s.
Laz grew up in Miami, and his music career started when he was 15 years old, performing as a DJ in local clubs. He got his radio start in 1986 on WHQT FM 105.1, then in 1990 being aged 19, he was hired to host the weekday morning program “DJ Laz Morning Show” on WPOW 96.5 FM, branded “Power 96”, a position he would hold for 22 years. Here he became known for always getting the most exclusive material in a somewhat mysterious way, which enabled him to achieve a great level of popularity. Such material included obtaining Justin Bieber’s 911 call in 2012, when the popular singer call to authorities to report paparazzi that were following him. Later that year Laz’s show aired a pre-recorded interview with President Barack Obama. He also drew much attention for his show’s appearance on Fox’s television’s “Dish Nation”. DJ Laz became one of the station’s most popular on-air personalities, collecting a large fan base, and earning a decent amount of money as well.
Laz left the company in 2012, but not long after, he began hosting the new “DJ Laz Morning Show” on the newly reformatted WRMA DJ106.7 a Bilingual Dance/Rhythmic formatted station, additionally improving his wealth.
Aside from his radio career, Laz has established himself as a successful rapper. After signing with bass music label Pandisc, his self-titled debut album came out in 1991, with its single “Mami El Negro” reaching the Top 100. By the end of the decade he had released three more albums, also under Pandisc, achieving a Billboard Hot 100 hit with the single “Journey Into Bass”. Several more albums followed in the early 2000 – his most recent album was released in 2008, entitled “Category 6”, and it dominated the Billboard album charts, with its single “Move Shake Drop” featuring vocals from Flo Rida, Casely and Pitbull, reaching #56 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, Laz has released several singles, but hasn’t recorded new albums.
Laz’s music, greatly influenced by Latin genres, involves mostly booty bass, with occasional Latin Hip Hop and gangsta rap recordings. It has greatly reinforced his popularity status and significantly contributed to his net worth.
In addition to being a DJ and a rapper, Laz keeps himself busy by promoting various shows and events and performing at Ft. Lauderdale clubs.
When it comes to his personal life, Laz was married to Desiree from 1993 to 1999; he later married Joette. Other details regarding his private life are unknown to sources.
