Diana Ross Wiki Biography

Diana Ernestine Earle Ross, commonly known as Diana Ross, is a famous American actress, record producer, singer, film and television producer, as well as a screenwriter. To the audience, Diana Ross is best known as a member of a female singing group called “The Supremes”, which up to date is one of the most successful groups in the United States. The band was originally created in 1959 by Florence Ballard, Ross, Betty McGlown and Mary Wilson. Over the years, the group had undergone through many changes, until eventually Ross, Ballard and Wilson continued on as a trio. Ross’ contributions to the group were so immense that at some point the trio was renamed to “Diana Ross & the Supremes” before it was changed back to “The Supremes”. As a group, “The Supremes” released 29 studio albums and 30 compilation albums, which produced 33 Top 40 singles in the United States and 23 Top 10 singles in the United Kingdom. Considered to be among the best acts in the MoTown Records label, “The Supremes” had a huge impact on the music scene in the 1960s and 1970s. As they embraced a more feminine visual and audible style, “The Supremes” desired to show that black performers were as classy and sophisticated as white singers. Contributions that “The Supremes” have made to the music industry have been acknowledged with several Grammy Award nominations, while some of their songs made it to Grammy Hall of Fame, as well as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “The Supremes” influenced such popular female groups as “Destiny’s Child”, “The Pointer Sisters”, “The Emotions” and “TLC”.

Designated as a “Female Entertainer of the Century”, how rich is Diana Ross? According to sources, Diana Ross’ net worth is estimated to be $250 million. Needless to say, most of Diana Ross’ net worth and wealth comes from her involvement with “The Supremes”, as well as her solo career.

Diana Ross was born in 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, where she studied at Cass Technical High School. Diana Ross’ career started at the age of fifteen, when she joined a vocal group called “The Primettes”. The group eventually changed their name to the “Supremes” and signed a record deal with MoTown records. Even though Diana Ross is best known as a part of the group, she also managed to launch a successful solo singing career, and even ventured into acting. Diana Ross released her self-titled solo album in 1970, which featured such popular singles as “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)”, and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, both of which topped the music charts. Shortly after the release of her debut album, Diana Ross debuted in the role of Billie Holiday in a biographical drama film called “Lady Sings the Blues”. Even though the critics were initially skeptical of her performance, Diana Ross proved to be a talented actress and even won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her role.
