Dee Wallace Wiki Biography
Born Deanna Bowers on the 14th December 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas USA, she is an award-winning film and television actress known to the world for her numerous appearances in horror films, therefore earning the nickname ‘scream queen’. Some of her most famous roles include that of Mary in “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” (1982), and as Helen Brown in “Critters” (1986), among many other differing roles. Her career started in the mid- ‘70s.
Have you ever wondered how rich Dee Wallace is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Wallace’s net worth is as high as $500,000, an amount earned through her career in the entertainment industry, during which she made more than 220 film and TV appearances.
Dee is the daughter of Robert Stanley Bowers and Maxine (née Nichols). Dee went to Wyandotte High School, and after matriculation enrolled at the University of Kansas. She graduated with a degree in education, and soon after found a job as a high school drama teacher at Washington High School, in Kansas City.
Dee’s acting career began in 1974 with a minor role in the TV series “Lucas Tanner”, while three years later he got her breakthrough role in the Wes Craven horror classic “The Hills Have Eyes”, next to Suze Lanier-Bramlett, Robert Houston and John Steadman. The same year she starred in the drama “All the King’s Horses”, while in 1979 she featured in the Academy Award-nominated romantic drama “10”, directed by Blake Edwards, and starring Dudley Moore, Bo Derek and Julie Andrews. She started the ‘80s with another horror film, Joe Dante’s “The Howling” with Patrick Macnee and Dennis Dugan, and also starred in the drama “A Whale for the Killing”, which received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations, In 1982 she played Mary in Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award- winning sci-fi “E.T. the Extra Terrestrial”, which increased her net worth to a large margin.
She couldn’t break out from horror roles even if she wanted to, and during the ‘80s she starred in several more of the genre, including “Cujo” (1983) and “Critters” (1986), and which continued into the ‘90s, as she featured in “I’m Dangerous Tonight”, “Popcorn” (1991), and “Alligator II; The Mutation” (1991). Throughout ‘90s Dee had numerous appearances, however films were low-budget productions which hardly changed the size of her net worth. Some of the productions that are worth mentioning include the drama “Witness to the Execution” (1994), directed by Tommy Lee Wallace, and Peter Jackson’s “The Frighteners” (1996), starring Michael J. Fox, Trini Alvarado and Peter Dobson, which did add to her net worth.
Dee continued with roles in B production films in the new millennium; some of the films that stand out are the mystery drama directed by Karl Kozak “Out of the Black” (2001), then a string of horror films “Headspace” (2005), “J-ok’el” (2007), “Halloween” (2007) directed by Rob Zombie, “The House of the Devil” (2009), and a short break from horror genre with the drama “Happy in the Valley” (2009), starring William Forsythe, and Zoë Hall. In 2010 she appeared in the drama “Extraordinary Measures” with Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser, while in 2013 she was cast in Eugenio Mira’s mystery thriller “Grand Piano”, with Elijah Wood, John Cusack and Kerry Bishé in the lead roles. In recent years Dee appeared as Patricia Spencer in the soap opera “General Hospital” (2015), then as Grandma in the comedy TV series “Just Add Magic” (2015-2017), Craig Anderson’s horror “Red Christmas” (2016), and she has several projects that are in the making process, including “Death House”, “Impuratus” (2017), and “Catch a Fallen Star”, all of which are scheduled for release late in 2017.
Regarding her personal life, Dee was firstly married to Barry Wallace, then to Richard Stanley Gryebet from 1975 to 1980. She has one child with actor Christopher Stone, with whom she was married from 1980 until his death from a heart attack in 1995. Since 1998 she has been married Skip Belyea.
