Deana Melinda Carter Wiki Biography

Deana Kay Carter was born on the 4th January 1966, in Nashville, Tennessee USA, and is a singer, songwriter, and music producer, who achieved worldwide fame upon the release of her first album “Did I Shave My Legs for This?” (1996). Her career started two years earlier, when she was discovered by country music legend Willie Nelson.

Have you ever wondered how rich Deana Carter is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Carter’s net worth is as high as $5 million, an amount earned through her successful career in music, songwriting, and producing.

Deana Carter was born into a musical family, as her father was the famous studio musician, composer, and songwriter, Fred Carter Jr. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in rehabilitation therapy, having been very active in college, joining a sorority Alpha Delta Pi, and frequently performing in small music shows on the campus. Having earned her degree, Deana started working at the hospital, however, her love of music made her try once again to start a music career in 1989, and for that purpose, she learned to play the guitar, and began writing and composing her own songs.

Deana’s big break came in 1994, when Willie Nelson heard her demo tapes, and subsequently invited her to perform at the Farm Aid VII show. The same demo caught the attention of Capitol Records, who signed her on that same year. The first version of her debut album, called “Did I Shave My Legs for This?” (1995) was released in the UK, for Patriot Records, however, the label was short-lived, and after they folded, Carter released the album for the US market, this time for Capitol Records, and with an almost entirely different set of songs. The album was certified five times platinum, and spawned three hit singles – “Strawberry Wine” (1996), “We Danced Anyway” (1996), and “How Do I Get There” (1997). Upon its release, the former went straight to the number one position on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart, and also won the Country Music Association Award for Single of the Year. Another success from that period came when Deana was included on the soundtrack of the 20th Century Fox animated movie “Anastasia” (1997), with her rendition of “Once Upon a December”.

Her follow-up albums, while well-received, failed to gain much popularity, or the sales of her debut. “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” was released in 1998, and was certified gold, and the singles from the album include “Absence of the Heart” (1998), and “Angels Working Overtime” (1999); the former made the Top 20 Hot Country Singles, while the latter reached the Top 40. The title track was written by Carter’s father.

After her second album, Carter left Capitol Records, and released her third album entitled “Father Christmas” (2001) for Rounder Records. However, she switched labels again, recording her fourth studio album, “I’m Just a Girl” (2003) for Arista Nashville. Afterwards, she tried her luck with independent labels for the albums “Story Of My Life” (2005) and “The Chain” (2007), finally deciding to start her own record company, Little Nugget Records, in 2013. Consequently, she released her seventh studio album, “Southern Way Of Life” (2013), and re-released her holiday album “Father Christmas” the same year with her own label.

Regarding her personal life, Deana has married twice, firstly to Chris di Croce from 1995-2001, and then to Brandon Malone in 2009, although now apparently legally separated. She also has a son from a relationship with music video director, Christopher Hicky. She supports the National Kidney Foundation, acting as their spokesperson.
