David James Furnish was born on 25 October 1962, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is a filmmaker, producer, director and former advertising executive, best known for being married to Elton John. He created the documentary “Elton John: Tantrums & Tiaras”. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is David Furnish? As of mid-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $50 million, mostly earned through success in his numerous endeavors. He regularly contributes to various publications and also does a lot of charity work. He’s also created many films and as he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

David attended Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute, and matriculated in 1981. Afterwards, he attended the Richard Ivey School of Business, at the University of Western Ontario, graduating with a degree in Business Administration, and was then recruited by the advertising agency Oglivy & Mather. He worked there for many years which increased his net worth significantly. Eventually, he transferred to England and became part of the company’s board.
He’s since forayed into other endeavors, including filmmaking, creating Rocket Pictures alongside Elton John. One of his first films was the documentary “Tantrums and Tiaras” which was created in 1997 about Elton John, and included interviews as well as concert footage – a large part of the documentary featured a performance in Rio de Janeiro. The documentary won a Chris Award given by the Columbus Film and Video Festival, and was later re-released with extra material as a “Director’s Cut”. Other projects David has worked on include “Kofi Annan: Center of the Storm” which is about the Ghanaian diplomat and UN Secretary-General. The following year same-sex marriage became legal in England, and they married after nine years of civil partnership.

David Furnish Quotes
- I think it’s so ironic that quite a lot of Queen’s fans probably had no idea that Freddie Mercury was gay whatsoever, even though he embraced so many iconographic images and what gay men were supposed to look like, and the band was called Queen. The “I Want to Break Free” video took that and pushed it to another level. I think it was a very brave thing for them to do because it was acknowledging a side of the group that a lot of their fans probably hadn’t considered at the time.
- [on Gnomeo & Juliet (2011)] When Elton (John) and I work on things, we want to invest out time, creativity and energy in things that hopefully bring the world closer together, not further apart. The movie’s message essentially says it doesn’t matter if you’re a red or a blue. At the end of the day parents should love their children and want what’s best for them. Elton and I try not be judgmental people. We are not advocates in the placard-carrying way. We just try to live our life by example.
