He produced numerous projects and is a member of various film related committees. All of these achievements ensured the position of his wealth.
David is the son of actor Alan Ladd and actress Sue Carol. He attended Harvard-Westlake School located in Los Angeles, and after matriculating enrolled at the University of Southern California to earn a Bachelor of Science degree, graduating in 1964. During his time there, he also fulfilled obligations in the military as part of the USAF Reserve.
Three years later, Ladd started his career in Hollywood when he was cast in a supporting role in the film “The Big Land”, which starred his father actor. The film was successful and it led to another project for David called “The Proud Rebel”, in which he played a mute, and for which he won a Golden Globe Award for “Best Newcomer”. More opportunities opened up for him, and his net worth started to increase – his next projects would include “The Sad Horse”, “Raymie”, “Zane Grey Theatre”, and “A Dog of Flanders”, continuing making films throughout the 1970s.
In 1982, Ladd then started working at Columbia Pictures as a creative executive. He then joined his brother-in-law in a new production company based at Columbia. David’s first solo production came in the film “The Serpent and the Rainbow”, based on the book of the same name; it was successful, and it led him to produce more films, increasing his net worth, and along with his half-brother Alan Ladd Jr producing several more films too.
In 1989, David then became a senior production executive at MGM, and was responsible for producing “Get Shorty”. He stayed with the company as an executive until 1998 when he moved to focus on producing TV series, including “The Mod Squad”, “Hart’s War” and “A Guy Thing”.
After MGM was sold, Ladd left the company and became independent, but also started working with other companies such as Universal, Fox, and Paramount.
