Dave Mirra Wiki Biography

David Michael Mirra was born on the 4th April 1974, in Chittenango, New York USA, and was probably best known for being not only a professional BMX rider, but also a rallycross racing driver, who held the record with the most X Games titles – 24. He competed for the Subaru Rally Team USA, and he was also recognized for winning the 2014 Race Across America. His career was active from 1992 to 2016, when he died.

So, have you ever wondered how rich Dave Mirra was? According to authoritative sources, it was estimated that the total size of Dave’s net worth was over $15 million. This amount of money came from his career in the sports industry as a professional BMX rider, and rallycross racing driver. Additional to this, he was also a TV host, and featured in two video games, which increased his net worth too. Other sources were coming from owning a bike company, and from the sales of his book.

Dave Mirra spent his childhood in his hometown, and after high school, he enrolled at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, from which he graduated. Right after that, he moved to Greenville, North Carolina, where his brother studied. Soon after, Ryan Nyquist, a former professional BMX rider, began to live with his brother, and thanks to him, Dave turned professional.

Before his professional career began, Dave was a member of the Haro Bikes BMX team from 1987, when he was a 13-year-old boy. He excelled in it, so during the 1988 year, he starred in some videos, produced by Plywood Hoods. In the following year, he earned a sponsorship from Vision Street Wear, as well as from GT Bicycles, after which he joined Hoffman Bikes in 1992.

Thus, his professional career began in 1992, and every year he won the X Games title from 1995 until 2009, except in 2006. In total, he won 24 X Games medals, setting a new record, and increasing his net worth by a large margin. Thanks to his skills, he also won the Best Male Action Sports Athlete ESPY Award in 2005. In 2011, he decided to retire from BMX riding.

Parallel with BMX riding, Dave competed in rallying and rallycross for Subaru Rally Team USA from 2008 until 2013, which was his best year, as he won the Global RallyCross Championship, increasing further his net worth.

He also started to compete in triathlon in 2013, and in the following year he qualified to participate at the 2014 Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

Apart from his successful career in the sports industry, Dave Mirra became known as a television host of the MTV series “Real World/Road Rules Challenge”, and besides that, he starred in the video game “Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX” series, which was followed by appearing in another video game entitled “Colin McRae: Dirt 2”. He also published his autobiographical photo-book – “Mirra Images” – and in 2007 he established his own company – MirraCo. All of these jobs added a considerable amount to his net worth.

If to talk about his personal life, Dave Mirra was married to Lauren Blackwell Mirra, with whom he had two daughters. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the age of 41on the 4th February 2016 in Greenville, North Carolina, USA – diagnoses of chronic traumatic encephalopathy and neurodegenerative disease may have contributed to his demise.
