Dave Grohl Wiki Biography
David Eric “Dave” Grohl is a widely known rock star who played along side the famous Kurt Cobain in Nirvana and is the founder of the rock band Foo Fighters. Obviously playing drums are not the only talent that Dave has. He is a song writer, producer, plays the guitar and even sings. So how rich is this amazing rock talent? Today Dave Grohl’s net wort is $260 million. This huge net worth Dave achieved not only performing with the previously mentioned bands, but he participated in more than a few projects with well known artists like Tenacious D, Nine Inch Nails, Killing Joke, Queens Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, David Bowie and even Paul McCartney.
Grohl’s interest in music started in his adolescence, since he began taking guitar lessons from the age of twelve, and after his cousin took him to a few punk rock music shows, Dave knew that this is the path he wants to go.
Switching schools more than once for his marihuana use, Dave played the guitar in a few local bands. But playing the guitar was not enough for Grohl, so he thought him self to play drums and that’s what gave him the start to gain this huge net worth. At the age of seventeen David got a spot in a band named Scream, even though he did lie about his age while auditioning and claimed that he was twenty. Grohl dropped out of school in his junior year to go on tour with his new band and as he sad in his latter interviews he never regretted doing this. A few years latter when the Scream had split up, Dave got in touch with Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic and auditioned for one of the most powerful rock band- Nirvana. The fame and success rushed their way, but Dave did not feel too special in the band, according to him, he was just one of many drummers. Despite the fact that most of the songs in the band was written by Kurt Cobain, Grohl did not gave up, he wrote his own songs and released them in 1992 by the nick name “Late!”.
In 1994 devastated after Kurt’s sudden suicide, Dave created an amazing album of his own, and I mean all on his own. Not only that he singed the vocal part of his written songs, but Grohl played most of the instruments that where used in this album. And his efforts didn’t went unnoticed, Capital Records signed a contract with Dave and that was the beginning of one of the most successful rock bands of the twenty fist century- Foo Fighters. Grohl as the lead singer and rhythm guitar player recruited Pat Smear (guitar), William Goldsmith (drums) and Nate Mendel (bass) as the members of the band and started a Grammy awards wining journey. The biggest success the band stroke at the year 2000, after the singles “Everlong”, “All My Life” and the album “Last Night” was nominated for a Grammy award, for the best album of the year.
Even though Dave Grohl is living a luxurious life with his $260 million net worth, he is one of the nicest celebrities, who’s a loving husband, father of two and a man that stands up for gay rights. Unlike most rock stars, Dave claims that he’s never done cocaine, heroine and from the age of 20 he stopped using marihuana and LSD.

Dave Grohl Quotes
- Man, nobody is cooler that Dolly Parton. Her story is amazing. Man, she didn’t even have running water. She bought her family’s first TV from being on TV. Did you know that? you do now.
- I swear to God, you can tell the difference between an English drummer and an American one. Most of the English drummers swing their rolls, but most of the Americans don’t.
- If The Beatles were the original rock’n’roll four-piece, then Ringo [Ringo Starr] was the original rock’n’roll drummer. This was the template for the next 40 years of music. They were certainly the foundation for what I do and Ringo seemed to be the foundation of The Beatles. I always thought he had a great style. He had a wonderful swing and was a showman. A lot of drummers aren’t considered showmen, but he definitely turned it on. His swing and backbeat carry so many of The Beatles’ songs. Back then, the recording depended on the feel of the song. There was no digital manipulation of drum tracks, so it was up to the drummer to dictate that feel. And Ringo had his own sound. Pull all the instruments out and you’d still know it was a Beatles song. And that’s the sound of a signature drummer. It’s the kind of thing drummers strive for all their career, but not all of them make it.
- From one generation to the next, The Beatles will remain the most important rock band of all time.
- How Kurt could even think we’d make a ripple in this ridiculous mainstream world of polished pop music was beyond me. It was beyond everyone. It made absolutely no sense. It was simply unimaginable. It was the type of hopeless, shallow aspirations that we had been conditioned to reject, ultimately relieving us of any intention other than to just be ourselves.
- Who’s to say what’s a good voice and not a good voice? The Voice (2011)? Imagine Bob Dylan standing there singing ‘Blowin in the Wind’ in front of Christina Aguilera. ‘I think you sound a little nasally and sharp.’
- I always go, and people will think I’m crazy for this as there are a lot of Bowie [David Bowie] eras and they’re all great, but I really like the ‘Let’s Dance’ period. Because, as a drummer, that’s one of the best air drumming albums of all time. I can appreciate technical drumming, sure. But to me there’s nothing better than being in a bar full of people dancing and air drumming when none of them know how to play the drums. That and ‘Back In Black’, anyone will air drum to those albums.
- Live Aid (1985) was huge. How many bands played that thing? Everybody. Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody.
- [on George W. Bush] When we heard that he was using our music at his rallies it was like being raped in the ass. It was not a good feeling.
- When I discovered punk rock, the only punk rockers I’d seen were on Quincy.
Dave Grohl Important Facts
- Along with the other members of Nirvana, Dave is close friends with the members of he Red Hot Chili Peppers. The bands toured together several times in the 1990’s and members would often play guest spots during the other’s set whilst touring.
- Widely considered by other artists, fans and critics to be the nicest man in all of rock music. He would often go out of his way for fans, who describe him as affable, genuine, warm, caring, and truly interested in what they had to say, often spending hours after a concert or press event mingling with fans and conversing with them on a wide range of topics. Fans, in turn, would often be very respectful whenever Grohl would need time away to eat, sleep, or spend some private time by himself or with his family. Even so, Grohl almost never turned down a fan who wanted an autograph or who would just come up to say hello. He has also been only too happy over his career to dispense advice to aspiring musicians whenever asked, and would occasionally come in to help them if he was in town and his schedule permitted. He even encouraged his fans to record his live concerts and freely trade those recordings among themselves.
- Dropped out of high school at age 17 to go on tour with a punk band. At 21 he was broke in Los Angeles with no way to get home. Fortuitously, about this time he got a call about joining a Seattle band called Nirvana.
- During a trip to Chicago at age 13, a cousin took him to his first concert where he saw local punk rock band “Naked Raygun” perform. That particular event was a milestone in Dave’s life in that he knew there and then what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.
- Stopped a performance mid-song when he saw someone being beaten up in the crowd. He yelled at the instigator and ordered him to be ejected from the venue immediately, stating he wouldn’t tolerate violence against people who paid their hard-earned money to come see him play, and that people came there to dance and have a good time without fear of getting beaten up.
- Subject of the song “Dave Grohl” by Wesley Willis.
- Stated in a BBC interview that the only drugs he ever used were marijuana and LSD, but never touched harder drugs, such as cocaine and heroin. He said in the same interview that life is hard enough as it is, and such hard drugs don’t make living any easier.
- Broke his leg on-stage during a concert in June 2015. Instead of going to the hospital, he had the leg set on-site and finished the concert seated in a chair.
- He is a left-leaning liberal Democrat. He was a strong critic of Republican President George W. Bush. Among his liberal views is his longtime and staunch advocacy of LGBT causes. In 1992, he played a benefit concert with the other members of Nirvana in opposition to Oregon Ballot Measure 9, and to this day, is often seen wearing a white knot in support of LGBT causes.
- His third daughter, Ophelia Saint Grohl, was born on August 1, 2014.

- His first concert was at The Cubby Bear in Chicago Illinois.
- Was the drummer of grunge band Nirvana in the early 90s.
- Is one of the most popular people in the music industry, due to his skill on most musical instruments (but particularly drums) and his pleasant, humorous personality.
- Before joining Nirvana, Grohl had been a member of the bands “Scream” and “Dain Bramage”.
- Foo Fighters’ fourth album, an 11-track effort titled “One by One”, was released on October 22nd (one week before the Nirvana “Greatest Hits” package came out). The first single/video from the album was “All my Life”.
- As a tribute to legendary punk bass player Mike Watt, Dave put 2 t’s in the title of the song Wattershed.
- Wrote all the songs and played all the instruments (except guitar on X-Static, played by Greg Dulli) on Foo Fighters’ self-titled debut album, released in 1995.
- George Harrison was his favourite Beatle, and he wrote the song “Oh, George” in dedication to him in 1994.
- Inducted into the Washington (DC) Area Music Hall of Fame, 2002.
- His mother appears in Foo Fighters’ “Breakout” video.
- Many of the songs that wound up on Foo Fighters’ debut were rehearsed in early 1994 as potential Nirvana songs, with Dave on guitar and Kurt Cobain playing the drums.
