Daron Malakian Wiki Biography
Daron Vartan Malakian was born on 18 July 1975, in Los Angeles, California USA, of Armenian descent, and is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and instrumentalist, probably best known for being part of the rock band System of a Down. He is also the lead guitarist, songwriter, and lead vocalist of the band Scars on Broadway. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Daron Malakian? As of late-2016, sources estimate a net worth that is at $8 million, mostly earned through a successful career in the music industry. He is also considered as one of the greatest guitarists of all time by numerous publications. As he continues his career it is expected that his wealth will increase.
At a young age, Daron became interested in heavy metal, being introduced to Kiss when he was four years old. Then he started listening to Van Halen, Judas Priest, Def Leppard and Motorhead. He wanted to learn the drums, but his parents bought him a guitar instead, so he taught himself how to play the guitar, and later on he would also start writing songs. While in his teens, he listened to Metallica, Pantera, and Venom. He also started getting interested in The Beatles, The Kinks, as well as Peter, Paul and Mary. He attended Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School where he would meet future bandmates. Afterwards, he attended Glendale High School, and would meet Serj Tankian in 1993.
The two met at a rehearsal studio with different bands and then they decided to form their own band called Soil. Eventually, after Soil broke up, the two formed a new band called System of a Down named for a poem Malakian wrote – he is the only member of System of a Down who was born in the United States. Daron was responsible for co-producing a lot of System of a Down’s albums, and was also involved in producing Bad Acid Trip and The Ambulance’s albums. In 2003, he started his own label called EatUrMusic, and signed Amen as its first band. However the label is now considered inactive.
In 2003, Daron along with Zach Hill and Casey Chaos created a demo tape entitled “Ghetto Blaster”. This later led to a band entitled Scars on Broadway and “BYOB”, which became a System of a Down hit in 2005. Later on, when System of a Down went on hiatus, Scars on Broadway became active and then released an album in 2008; the debut album featured the hit “They Say” and the band was supposed to tour, but Malakian decided to cancel all appearances. According to an interview, he said that he had a lack of enthusiasm. In 2009, Scars on Broadway travelled to Iraq to perform at US army bases, but Daron was not present. The following year, he reunited with the band and they are now producing new songs, probably adding to his net worth.
The band released their new studio recording called “Fucking” and in 2011, System of a Down reunited for a European tour. In 2014, he also appeared in the Linkin Park album “The Hunting Party” and played guitar for the promotional single “Rebellion”. One of his latest performances was with the Millennials in 2016.
For his personal life, it is known that Daron was in a long-term relationship with Jessica Miller (2003-10) but is apparently currently single. He is a lifelong fan of the Edmonton Oilers hockey team, and has a large collection of team related memorabilia.
