Daniel Christopher “Dan” Gilroy was born on 24 June 1959, in Santa Monica, California USA, to Frank D. Gilroy and Ruth Dorothy Gaydos, and is a critically acclaimed screenwriter and film director, perhaps best known for his work on the 2014 movie‘’Nightcrawler’’.

Dan was born into a family well known for its artistic and movie tendencies. His father, Frank D. Gilroy was a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright. His mother was a writer and sculptor. He has two brothers, Tony and a twin brother John, both involved in the movie industry. Dan grew up in Washingtonville, New York where he attended Washingtonville High School, and then graduated from Dartmouth College in 1981. His earliest work was in a 1992 fiction thriller ‘’Freejack’’. The movie didn’t get a positive response, but it was only Gilroy’s debut. In the following years, he worked on several projects including ‘’Chasers’’, which he co-wrote alongside Joe Batteer and Ronald Shusett. His career temporarily stopped, however, he continued writing and eventually returned to the business in 2005 when he wrote ‘’Two for the Money’’, a sports-drama film starring big time actors such as Al Pacino, Matthew McConaughey and Armand Assante – nonetheless, the movie received negative reviews from critics. Gilroy was active during the mid-2000s as well, but still struggled to make a well perceived movie However, things took a turn in 2011 when he co-wrote ‘’Real Steal’’, an American science fiction film starring Hugh Jackman for DreamWork Pictures. The movie received positive reviews and plenty of attention from cinema fans and experts, earning a total of $299.3 million at the box office. Gilroy’s work was critically acclaimed and his career was to progress and develop. In the following year he went on to co-write ‘’The Bourne Legacy’’ which was also a box office hit, and Dan’s career reached its highest point in 2014 when he wrote and directed ‘’Nighcrawler’’ a thriller movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal, which was his directing debut as well. The movie was notably successful and Gilroy was nominated for numerous awards such as best original screenplay, most promising director and screenwriter of the year, among many others. One of the biggest achievements in his career was perhaps an Oscar nomination he received.

He was an acknowledged contributor to ‘’The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened’’, a documentary film in which he appeared as well. This was followed by several other movies which he co-wrote and which turned out to be box office hits. As of mid-2017, Gilroy has wrttten and is currently in the process of directing ‘’Roman Israel Esq.’’ a legal drama film which will hit the cinemas in 2018.

In his personal life, Gilroy was born Dan collaborated with Tony in ‘’The Bourne Legacy’’.

Gilroy has been married to American actress Rene Russo since 1992, and they have a daughter. Rene often makes an appearance in Dan’s movies, and starred in ‘’Two for the Money’’
