Dabo Swinney Wiki Biography
William Christopher “Dabo” Swinney is a college football coach, born on 20th November 1969 in Birmingham, Alabama USA. He has been serving as head coach of the Clemson Tigers of Clemson University since 2008, and at the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship, he led the team to victory.
Have you ever wondered how rich Dabo Swiney is? According to sources it has been estimated that Dabo Swiney’s overall net worth is $12 million, as of July 2017, accumulated through a successful career in sport, which he first started as a player and later continued as a coach. Since he is still actively coaching football, his net worth continues to increase.
Born in Birmingham but raised in Pelham, Alabama, Swiney studied at the University of Alabama where he joined the Crimson Tide football program. There, he played as a walk-on wide receiver in 1989 and earned a scholarship, lettering on three teams including the Crimson Tide’s 1992 National Championship Team. In this period, Dabo was twice named a SEC Scholar Athlete Honor Roll member, and an Academic All-SEC. He graduated in 1993 with a degree in commerce & business administration and obtained his master’s degree in business administration two years later.
The same year he received his MBA degree, Swiney became a full-time assistant coach of Crimson Tide, but was eventually fired by coach Mike DuBose’s staff in 2001. However, that same year his former coach Rich Wingo offered him a job in AIG Baker Real Estate, so Dabo worked on development projects in Alabama for two years. In 2003, he accepted coach Tommy Bowden’s offer and became an assistant coach at Clemson, taking over as recruiting co-ordinator, staying in this position for five years, proving to be excellent in his job and being named one of the nation’s top 25 recruiters in 2007. In October 2008, Dabo was named interim head coach of the Clemson Tigers, and after taking up his new job, Swiney immediately implemented changes – he fired offensive coordinator Rob Spence and introduced the “Tiger Walk” which involves both players and coaches walking through the parking lot for about two hours before final game preparations. His recruiting reputation gained significant popularity after producing five top 20 ESPN classes in a row, and positioning Clemson as one of only 10 schools in the top 20 recruiting institutions.
However, in spite of his spectacular reputation, Dabo was unpopular among most Clemson fans as they criticized his lack of experience among several other things. However, his finest results as the head coach are leading the team to finishing with a positive record, and winning the Atlantic Division title, setting a 10-3 record at the ACC Championship (Tiger’s first since 1991), participating in the Orange Bowl (first time since 1981), earning the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award in 2011, being named Associated Press Coach of Year, Walter Camp Coach of the Year, Home Depot Coach of the Year (all in 2012) and winning the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award. In April 2016 Dabo signed a six-year contract extension with the Tigers and led them to a 35-31 victory over Alabama in the 2017 National Championship.
When it comes to his private life, Swinney married his high school sweetheart Kathleen Basset in 1994 and the couple has three children.
