Curtis Martin Wiki Biography

Curtis James Martin Jr. was born on 1 May 1973, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA, and is a retired professional American Football player, best known to have played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) with the New England Patriots and the New York Jets. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Curtis Martin? As of early-2017, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $6 million, mostly earned through a successful career in professional football. He retired as the fourth leading rusher in NFL history, and has since been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. All of these achievements ensured the position of his wealth.

After a childhood filled with violence, Curtis and his mother moved to Point Breeze and he would attend Taylor Allderdice High School. He played basketball during his time there and later moved to football during his senior year. He wasn’t very interested in the sport, but the head coach saw his potential as a football player. After matriculating in 1991, he was approached by many schools, including the University of Pittsburgh which he would attend. He was seen as a potential star for the football team, but he had numerous injuries which set back his college career. He then joined the 1995 NFL Draft.

He was selected by the New England Patriots, despite questions regarding Martin’s durability. He helped the team get a win on his debut, and would continue an impressive streak throughout the season, becoming the AFC’s leading rusher and being named Offensive Rookie of the Year, and invited to the Pro Bowl. During his second season he would help the team reach Super Bowl XXXI before losing to the Green Bay Packers. For the second consecutive year, he was named to the Pro Bowl.

In 1997, Curtis’ contract with the Patriots ended, and he was then offered a contract by the New York Jets, for six years on $36 million, increasing his net worth significantly. He would be healthy in the next seven seasons with the Jets, only missing one game, and being invited to the Pro Bowl three more times. Martin won numerous honors and awards, including leading rusher in 2004, at 31 years the oldest ever, and being invited to his fifth Pro Bowl. However, in 2005 he suffered a right knee injury which affected the rest of his season. Despite that, he still was able to reach 14,000 yards rushed in his career, only the fourth player to achieve this target. He was forced to undergo season ending surgery, and later decided to retire in 2007 after his right knee continued to develop more complications.

During his first year of eligibility, Martin was considered for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but was not inducted until 2012. His acceptance speech was praised by many, and his jersey was retired by the Jets in the same year.

For his personal life, it is known that Curtis married longtime girlfriend Carolina Williams in 2010, and the following year they had a daughter. During his career, Curtis reconnected with his father who left the family due to addiction problems. It was a struggle but they finally made peace in 2009 before his father passed away from cancer. Martin also does charity work, mainly through the Curtis Martin Job Foundation helping disadvantaged women and children.

Curtis Martin Quotes

  • Wayne Chrebet was an incredible teammate. He was a warrior, and I always felt you’d have to kill him to get the upper hand on him. If every player in the NFL had as much heart and desire as he had, football would be illegal.
  • Hopefully, my legacy is a legacy of character. For me, I would rather be associated with words like ‘integrity,’ ‘hard-working,’ ‘perseverance’ and ‘honest’ more so than all the yards and touchdowns.
