P. J. attended Winnfield High School in Louisiana, and after matriculating he went on to enroll into Louisiana Tech, where he played for the basketball team. In July 2006 he was traded to the Chicago Bulls alongside his teammate J. R. Smith, subsequently starting 49 out of 72 games and playing for 20.2 minutes per game. In 2008, he made his debut for the Boston Celtics in a match against his previous team, the Chicago Bulls, then provided a notable performance in a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring 10 points with six rebounds and hit all of his four shots. P.J. ended the season with an average of 2.2 points per match in 18 games played. He retired after the season had finished, having played in more than 1,000 NBA games.
