Christopher Gilbert Pérez Wiki Biography
Christopher Gilbert Pérez was born on 14 August 1969, in San Antonio, Texas USA, to Gilbert Pérez and Carmen Medina, and is best known as the former lead guitarist for the band Selena y Los Dinos, with whom he released albums such as ‘‘Ven Conmigo’’ and ‘‘Entre a Mi Mundo’’.
So just how rich is Chris Perez as of early 2018? According to authoritative sources, this singer has a net worth of $1.2 million, with his wealth being accumulated from his over three decades-long career in the mentioned field.
Perez was interested in music from an early age, with his role models Van Halen, the Scorpions, Iron Maiden and Kiss, among others. When he was seventeen, he moved to Los Angeles, wanting to start a band there, but prior to becoming a singer, he worked in a library and lived with his father, until in 1989 he joined Selena y Los Dinos, replacing the lead guitarist; Perez thought that the music genre of the group was ‘‘hip and sophisticated’’, and preferred it over other Tejano bands. In 1989, Perez wrote the jingle for Selena’s recorded commercial for Coca-Cola, then in 1990, the band released the album entitled ‘‘Ven Conmigo’’, which featured 10 tracks such as ‘‘Ya Ves’’ and ‘‘Aunque No Salga El Sol’’. They followed by making ‘‘Entre a Mi Mundo’’ in 1992 and ‘‘Amor Prohibido’’ in 1994, all with moderate success.
However, his fellow band mate and wife, Selena, was shot and killed on 30 March 1995 by her former manager Yolanda Saldívar, which devastated Perez, but needing a distraction, he established his own Chris Perez Band, and released two albums, the first ‘‘Resurrection’’ in 1999, featuring 15 songs such as ‘‘Noches En Vela’’, ‘‘Solo Tu’’, ‘‘Refugio’’ and ‘‘Porque Te Fuiste’’, and winning the Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album. He followed with the album ‘‘Una Noche Más’’, also with 15 songs including ‘‘Dime Por Qué Te Vas’’, ‘‘Ahora Que Voy A Marcharme’’, ‘‘Me Duele Más A Mi’’ and ‘‘Por Qué Duele Tanto’’, the success of which enhanced his net worth.
As of 2006, he joined the band Kumbia All-Starz, and released ‘‘Ayer Fue Kumbia Kings, Hoy Es Kumbia All Starz’’ with them; the 14 tracks included ‘‘Mami’’, ‘‘Anoche No Dormí’’ and ‘‘Speedy Gonzalez’’, and was followed in 2008 by the album ‘‘Planeta Kumbia’’, with 15 tracks such as ‘‘Por Ti Baby’’, ‘‘Felicidades’’ and ‘‘Gracias’’. However, in 2010, he left the band to reform his own – the Chris Perez Project – and released the album ‘‘Todo es Diferente’’.
Besides being a musician, Perez is also an author – he wrote ‘‘To Selena With Love’’, in which he described his relationship including struggles with the late singer.
When it comes to his private life, Chris was married to Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, American singer, songwriter and spokesperson from 1992 until her murdered in 1995, after which he took to alcohol and drugs until he was introduced to Venessa Villanueva in 1998, and they went on to marry in 2001. He became a father to a boy and a girl, however, the couple divorced in 2008, apparently against Venessa’s wishes. Chris has since remained officially single.
