Chris’ childhood was marked with frequent moves. He lived in his hometown until he was four years old, and then his family moved to Sugar Land, Texas, where the family resided for the next several years, but when it was time for Chris to attend high school, the family moved to Baytown, Texas. While in high school Chris took piano lessons, however, soon he found the guitar more interesting. His family moved again when he was in his senior year, this time to White Settlement, Texas, where he went to Brewer High School, but they soon returned to Baytown, and Chris eventually matriculated from Ross S. Sterling High School.
Chris firstly enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington, however, he switched between several universities, including Lee College in Baytown Texas, but eventually dropped out, and instead of acquiring a degree, Chris moved to Nashville to pursue a career in music, and met entertainment attorney Rod Phelps, who hired him as a nanny for his daughters. He then met Harlan Howard while working at a bar, who was immediately impressed by Chris’ talent, and even published one of Chris’ songs. Furthermore, he struck a deal with David Kersh and wrote several songs for the country legend. Little by little Chris’ chances of success in the music industry increased, and he signed a contract with Virgin Records in 2000.
The same year, Chris released his first album entitled “Play It Loud”, which achieved gold status, and only encouraged Chris to continue his career. However, Virgin Records closed in 2001, and he was left without a record label. Nevertheless, thanks to the success of his first album and songs such as “I Breathe In, I Breathe Out”, which topped the charts, soon enough he struck a deal with the Capitol Nashville.
His second, self-titled album came out in 2003, and became his first album to top the US Country Chart, while also achieving gold status, and further increasing his net worth. The following year his career was put on hold, as doctors diagnosed Chris with several anomalies with his vocal chords, including a lesion, granuloma, poly and vocal fold cyst; doctors told him to take a break of 60 days from singing, and not to put his voice to extremes, so as a result Chris cancelled numerous concerts, being out of music for the next three months.
He returned in 2005 with the album “Anywhere but Here”, which reached No. 4 on the US Country chart, while three years later he released his fourth album “My Life’s Been a Country Song”, which became his second No. 1 album.
Before his retirement in 2015, Chris released his fifth album – “Back in the Saddle” in 2012, the sales of which also increased his wealth.

Chris Cagle Quotes
- Here’s what I know. Nothing’s handed to you in this world. You gotta get up every morning and fight for your place at the table. You gotta believe in your dream because nobody else will. And you have to keep going, no matter what, because it’s the only way you’re gonna get there. And if you’re smart, no matter how rough it gets, you need to enjoy whatever you find along the way. You’re only gonna pass this way once, so while you’re hitting it hard, have some fun too. If you’re having fun, it’s a whole lot easier to stay in the game.
