Charlie Benante Wiki Biography
Charlie Benante was born on 27th November 1962 in New York City, USA and is a musician and drummer, probably best known as a member of thrash metal band Anthrax. Besides drums, he plays the guitar and keyboard, and is a music producer. Benante is one of the fathers of blastbeat, a very fast drumming technique. Charlie has been active in the entertainment industry since 1982.
How much is the net worth of Charlie Benante? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the overall size of his wealth is as much as $4 million, as of the data presented in late 2017. Music is the major source of Benante’s modest fortune.
To begin with, Benante comes from an American middle class family with two older sisters – both his mother and grandfather played the guitar. At the age of five, Benante began playing the drums; after various music schools rejected him because of his age, so eventually he took private lessons.
Concerning his professional career, Charlie Benante first performed live at the age of 15. At that time, he joined a cover band, which had up to four performances per the evening. However, playing cover versions did not satisfy Benante, and he left the band. In the middle of 1983, he became the drummer of the music band Anthrax; other founders of the band were guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker, complemented by the guitarist Dan Spitz, drummer Charlie Benante and singer Joey Belladonna. Charlie has been with the band ever since, collaborating in recording more than twenty albums, including studio, live, EPs and compilation albums. The band played thrash metal, and was one of the big names in that genre in the 1980s. Benante and the band recorded the albums “Among the Living” (1987), “State of Euphoria” (1988), “Persistence of Time” (1990) and “Sound of White Noise” (1993) all certified gold by RIAA.
Anthrax also made great use of humour in their music and image, for example often appearing in bermuda shorts in public and for performances, with separate varied jumping. Charlie is known for having a very fast double-bass technique and has been credited as one of the pioneers of using Blast Beats in thrash metal, in addition to possessing a great rebound technique.
Along with his musical works, Benante is also a graphic artist and created many of the covers of his bands’ albums and T-shirt designs.
Finally, in the personal life of the musician, Benante is married to Sandra; they have a daughter born at the beginning of 2006 and step son Gregory, born of his wife’s previous relationship. Curiously, he is the uncle to the bassist Frank Bello.
Moreover, he has a great interest in toys and comics, as can be seen in the special disc presentation of the Anthrax “Music of Mass Destruction” DVD. He is a fan of Star Wars and his favourite character is Darth Vader.
