Catherine Elizabeth Pierson was born on 27 April 1948, in Weehawken, New Jersey USA, and is a vocalist and lyricist, best known as the frontwoman and a co-founder of the band The B-52s.

Pierson grew up in Rutherford, New Jersey. A huge Bob Dylan fan during her junior high school days, she became a member of a local folk group that recorded various protest material. In the late ’90s, she formed a Japanese group called NiNa, along with singer Yuki Isoya and several other musicians, releasing one self-titled album in Japan, containing the hit singles “Happy Tomorrow” and “Aurora Tour”.

Pierson went on to perform and tour with B-52s during the 2000s, releasing their last album entitled “Funplex” in 2008. In the meantime, she opened her retro-styled motel complex called Kate’s Lazy Meadow Motel in upstate New York, followed by a companion motel, Kate’s Lazy Desert, in California. In 2015, Kate released her first solo album, “Guitars and Microphones”, under her own label Lazy Meadow Music.
